New Eagle Pack Formulas

On Eagle's website it says that they are getting new formulas and different packaging soon. Does anyone know what these changes are going to be? I hope they take out some of the ingredients in their duck, lamb, and fish formulas to make it more allergy friendly. Or maybe they'll take out some of their (IMO) "iffy" ingredients--like salt, brewers yeast, beet pulp, etc.

This came up a couple of weeks ago. I have noticed a change in the Holistic Chicken packaging that was now being sent to retailers and also checked the ingredients. What I found is listed here.

Re: the duck formula...I called EP customer service and asked about the chicken fat in the duck formula and whether or not it would cause issues for a dog with sensitivity to chicken meat.  She said it shouldn't but that they would be removing it from their new formula.

Oops--I didn't know this was already talked about---*sorry*[8D].

Looks like the changes aren't really what I had hoped for....

     I wish (I'm sure you do, too!) that they'd make a simple allergy formula. I'd LOVE to feed their foods, again, but Emma doesn't tolerate any of them.

Don't be
It's still evolving as all of the packaging hasn't been updated yet (to my knowledge). This will help us keep up with what's going on!

IMO those aren't " iffy" ingredients and the formulas are allergy friendly since they only have one meat source.

Brewers yeast is one of the most important natural souces of  B vitamines. It contains 16 amino acids, 14 minerals and 17 vitamins.  Beet pulp is fiber...
Why do you want these out of the ingredients. I feel Eagle and I sure don't want them taken out!

I think brewers yeast should be completely omitted if you have an allergy dog.This is what i've read anyways.Alot of people would avoid EP purely because of the "added" salt and would say it was added only for taste purposes??

I won't feed anything with it, because my allergy dog is (like many others) quite prone to yeast infections.

Brewer's yeast does not cause yeast infections;

" Brewers Yeast is an important, natural source of B vitamins.  It contains 16 amino acids, 14 minerals, and 17 vitamins.  It has no relationship to yeast overgrowth.  Yeast/fungus infections are caused by Candida Albicaus, a parasitic, yeast-like fungus that inhabits the intestines, genital tract, mouth, esophagus and throat.  Normally it lives in balance with other bacteria in the body.  Certain conditions cause an imbalance, causing an overgrowth. (Source "Nutrition Almanac, 4th Edition").  It is not considered an allergen by leading canine nutritionists, nor is it on a researched list of ingredients "causing 89% of allergies" ("Small Animal Clinical Nutrition III")."

       Here's the reason Eagle Pack adds salt to their kibble;

[linkhttp://www.greatdanelady.com/eaglefoodsinterview2.htm]http://www.greatdanelady.com/eaglefoodsinterview2.htm[/link]

Joe: There is natural occurring salt in the meat ingredients, and until recently, we did not add back any salt. What has happened, however, because of the direction that human diets are taking (i.e., less salt), our meat ingredients do not have enough "ingredient born" salt to meet the animal's needs. Both dogs and cats need a certain level of salt for many reasons - among them is that proper salt levels will prevent urinary tract diseases. However, too high a salt content, where a manufacturer adds back more salt than necessary so he can enhance palatability to overcome poor quality ingredients, causes other problems.

Brewer's yeast does not cause yeast infections;

I know feeding yeast does not 'cause' yeast infections,but it does exasberate conditions in dogs that already are prone to yeast infections and other allergies.I wouldnt be feeding yeast to a dog that is prone to yeast infections. In my holistic food catalogue,they have in big writing next to brewers yeast: ":Not recommended for dogs with allergies":

I think that may be the ingredient in EP Duck that made Gingerbread's ears itch like crazy. It's the worst he's EVER itched since I had him, and it's the only ingredient (besides duck) that he'd never had before.
