Sorry to add another RMB post. . . nervous!!!

Yep, you got that exactly right.

My gsds can destroy an entire knuckle bone...beef...but I think it takes pretty powerful chewers to do that.  With marrow I tend to get them cut at least 6-8 inches long, but then I've got pretty big dogs.

No worries twin, you are on the right post with all the other RMB newbies! Dyan and I both just tried our very first one. Her Bubby had upset tummy and 1 of my greys ate it well but the other would just hide it in her bed under her blanket "saving it for later" Makes it tough to feed it to them if they won't eat it!

Lots of good info though on some previous threads and I have found some of Glenda's posts VERY helpful. You may want to sort through some of her previous posts to find the good info. Good luck with the tummy and Gas!  [:D

I just wanted to say JJsmom,,,that Bubblegum DID try to eat that rib bone,,,she DID eat all the meat which is I think what caused her upset...but she gnawed and gnawed on the rib bone for a good 45 minutes,,maybe more to try to eat it. She did get some off the top...it must have been softer,,,she crunched all that up,,but just couldn't break down the rib. I can't believe it because she is a very powerful dog!   I have a feeling that not many dogs could have eaten that bone. Bubby ALSO devours most of a knuckle bone,,its much softer.
Twin,,be prepared,,,it just might make your dog gassy!

JJsmom,,,your right the greyhounds need you more!  Thank goodness there are so many that take them and give them a life.

Dyan- Sorry if it didn't come out sounding right. . .  what I meant was that she didn't eat a lot of the bone, mainly the meat.

I think it must have been that particular bone because the beef Rib I gave JJ he devoured the bone with little effort. I would bet that Bubby could break it in 1/2 with one big bite!  LOL  [:D]

Yeah the greys need me but they need more people too. . .use to kill 50,000+ a year, now thanks to rescues I think that # is cut in half. Problem is that there are not enough folks willing to take them (lots of myths and misconceptions about them). Whenever my rescue goes to Mexico to pick up the 6 or 8 dogs they have room for (because 12 are still awaiting their forever homes), they end up leaving as many as 60+ at the track to be put down. Most of those dogs are only between 1 1/2 -3 years old and the oldest ones are still only 5. .  .it is sooo sad! [:(]

Interesting to hear your vet specializes in greys, not many out there do!  [;)]

Meant to get the CET chews today, but ran out of time. . .oh well, some other day!!

    Twin,
Where did you purchase your 4 " marrow bones from?
    How big is your dog?
Ella is a 60 lb. pit mix (she doesn't look big, but she's muscular) so I was curious as to how big I should get one.

HHHHmmmm,,,makes me wonder why she couldn't get thru her  bone.  It was a beef back rib bone,,about 5 inches long,,maybe 6.  It was nearly an inch wide. There were two cut together and I cut thru the meat seperated them.   She was able to eat the top part,,which was not exactly the rib part...so she was trying to eat the bone.  And of course that is what I wanted for her.  I am thinking I wonder why yours were so eatable but this one wasn't.

Its so sad about the greyhounds. I am really getting "into" trying to FIGHT agains Puppy Mills,,,I guess if I were you I'd be trying to fight against racing dogs...huh?  There is so much cruelty in this world, that has to be one of the.  I never really read that much about greyhounds...but I guess they can only race for a short time and then they are discarded...I guess the people don't really care about the lives, only the money.   Its a sad situation if that is the case.

    Chewbecca,

I got my marrow bones from a place called Scraps Dog Bakery...it is kinda like a small pet store with high end premium foods and dog treats. The lady was showing me around and said they had a freezer full of RAW/BARF diets and stuff like that. So, I looked in it and they had those marrow bones. I think they had a pack of like 2" ones and then 4" ones. Personally, I just always go for the bigger ones, or at least middle size. The smaller ones I save for the little guys. [:)] The bigger the mouth, the bigger the bone I always say! [:D] Hope that didn't sound bad...[sm=blush.gif]

Anyway, hope that helps...my boy is about the weight of your girl, but he is tall and skinny...I would recommend the 4" ones for your girl. [;)] Also, depends on how strong of chewers they are. If she is a strong chewer maybe go with a bigger one. My boy is kinda dainty and takes his time. [&:]
