Sorry to add another RMB post. . . nervous!!!

OK, so I tried the beef ribs and it worked OK. What I mean by that is that Jimmy James LOVED them and ate about 1 inch of the bone with no problems, but Prudence wouldn't eat hers! She horded it! She took it away and buried it under her blankets to save it for later. I got her to eat it for maybe 2 minutes max. I don't think that it will work out simply because of that. I will probably try them again but for right now I might just give them the bully sticks for their teeth since they both will eat them.

Dyan- How is Bubblegum's poop today?? Any better??

Keep trying! Prudence will get used to it. She won't want to miss out on JJ's fun, and she'll figure it out. Dogs watch eat other, and learn horrible, awful, bad behaviors. Why can't they watch and learn good chewing behaviors? 

LOL!  [sm=lol.gif]  It is so very true! I put the other 2 bones in teh freezer but will try them again. I hate to not give them to him becasue of her. . . look how happy he is!  She did eat her's for a minute, but then burried it again.

I think that she will learn. Some dogs are a little freaked out, when they first get a real bone, and don't know what to do with it. She'll catch on[]

She is better now,,,,she hasn't had "the runs" all day,,,but she has gas,,,so its not entirely gone. I just walked her again,,thinking she would go but she didn't.  I guess that is good.   She did have pumpkin for breakfast and supper tonight.
The other rib is in the fridge,,,,,,,,,,wondering when I should give it to her.

Dyan- tell me. . . how do you do the pumpkin thing?  I know that it is NOT the pumpkin pie filling, just plain pumpkin (like I use in pumpkin curry soup) but how much do you give and how many times do you give it before it takes effect??

I am very glad bubby is feeling better! Sorry about the gas. . .if it is anything like greyhound gas (Greys are KNOWN for their gas! LOL) then you are in for a fun night!

Maybe wait a day more before feeding the next?

About the pumpkin,,,I just opened the can and took out a very very large spoon full, probably equaled aobut 1/4 cup.....at supper did the same thing.  I will do it until its gone.  Its a veggie,,,and it would be good for her no matter if she has a problem or not.   I once in a while mix canned pumpkin into the meat that I cook for her too.

I will definately have to try the pumpkin.  JJ didn't seem to have overly soft stool this morning. I only fed him about 1/2 the bone so maybe this is why he wasn't too bad. Prudence didn't eat enough of it to even begin to make a difference in her stool.

I am afraid to give Bubby the other bone,,,wish I would have frozen it.   She is back to normal in the "poop department" but gee don't want to start it all over.
But how do you give half the bone to a Dane??

I gave JJ have the bone simply by taking it away when it was 1/2 gone. He was VERY upset when I started to reach for it and looked at me like he wanted to protect it. .  .but I snapped my fingers (which is my "no" command to him) and he backed his head away from it so that I could take it.

Will Bubby let you take things from him? If so you could try this and then see how he does just on a smaller portion of it??

Yeah,,I can take things away from Bubby!  But I guess my case is that I want her to gnaw on it to clean her teeth.....and only one rib at a time is not much for a Dane. BUT I could take part of the meat off since that is probably what caused the upset!

Dyan could you grit your teeth for a week giving a rmb every day or second day,until eventually her system gets used to it?It may be worth it in the long term. I so very much want to help you and Bubby with this!

If she has stomach problems from it during that week,,, would it be worth it? I mean she acted weird that whole day that she had the runs. I am not trying to get her to eat raw,,,  I'm trying to use the bones for her teeth. I thought if I gave them to her once a week or so.......    She does eat cooked meat on her kibble and raw eggs...veggies...fruit..she loves salad.  Its not that she gets only kibble.

I think I might have to throw the other rib bone away,,,I don't think this is worth it....  She ate the bone on Sunday,,,had the runs on Monday.   Yesterday she had a normal BM only she went twice,,and MOST OFTEN goes only once. And the last part of it was filmy,,,or mucusy,,,,  but I am feeding her pumpkin so I figured maybe that is why she went twice to begin with. BUT last night when her and I went to bed around 11 she ALWAYS comes to bed with me and I go to bed first because DH is retired and stays up a bit longer...Well, she was looking at me kind of weird,,, I put a blanket down on her bed and put the whole thing at the foot of my bed,,,and she always tries to get in before I have it ready,,,so DH tells her to sit by him while I get it ready, then she usually RUNS to her bed really fast and drops on it.  Last night she didn't do that..and then when I told her OK,,,she stayed by DH and sat by his chair, then in a few minutes she tried to get into bed with me. She NEVER does that,,but I sure didn't think there was anything wrong.....   she eventually laid down and we went to sleep. About 130,,,I heard her whimper,,and thought it was in her sleep, but a few minutes later I noticed her by me,,,and then looking out the window...so I got up. Sure enough she RAN to the door and I let her out and she went again.. I gave her Rescue Remedy when we came in. THEN she went this morning when we got up again. She hasn't gone since,,,I supposed I should not give her supper but she will be STARVED by 4:30,,,and she WAITS for her supper.   DH forbids me to give her the other bone...lol!

Dyan- how is Bubby doing?? Is his poop back to normal? Did you give the second bone or throw it away?? I froze the 2 I had left and will try it again another time to see if Prudence will actually eat it and not try to hide it in her bed to save for later. They area a little too bloody and messy for that!
