Is Boomer doing okay except for the dandruff? If his skin infections are under control you could try Humilac for the dandruff; [linkhttp://www.24hourpet.com/humilac-spray-p-290.html?osCsid=fa75f7d63b0f385cb8c550da06de4e1e]http://www.24hourpet.com/humilac-spray-p-290.html?osCsid=fa75f7d63b0f385cb8c550da06de4e1e[/link]
The link is just to show you what it is; you may be able to get it at your vet and save on shipping. I get it at my vet for $8. Jessie has never had a case of dandruff as bad as Boomer's but she did have a lot of flakes in February and my vet recommended Humilac; it cleared the dandruff up right away. A month ago Jessie had dandruff again and after using it for 2 days it was completely gone.
Thank you for the idea, I'll check into it.
He's seems to be doing okay right now. He had an outbreak of red splotches on his chest a couple of weeks ago, but they never bothered him and never progressed into bumps. He has a couple of little itchy bumps behind one ear, but they aren't spreading so I'm inclined not to think it's another infection starting.
I'm almost certain that the SS 21 does have ethoxyquin; it has to be in all fish meal not destined for human consumption unless the company has a permit. Since the vet has put Jessie on weekly allergy shots for the summer to stop her flare ups I stopped feeding it to her yesterday. I mentioned her increased stools even though she's getting the same amount of food; that's probably because of the almost 2% increase in fiber but I also suspect that there is more grain and less meat than in the Eagle Pack Fish I feed Jessie.
I'm pretty certain too, and I think their first answer was skirting the issue. Maybe they'll clarify for me now.
I did read though that only fish meal shipped on ocean going vessels must use it. The person talking about it referenced this

So I guess it's possible that they don't use it, but it's much more likely that they do.
If Boomer's food doesn't have digestive enzymes you may want to try adding an enzyme supplement; I've heard that can help.

I don't know what to believe about that, but even when I used it for a few weeks straight I didn't notice any difference so I've slacked off.
