3y/o Pitbull wont eat....?

we used to have the plastic dog bowls when he was little he would jus tchew it up tho. lol. i have a bunch of different food right now. he used to eat pedigree but now he wont eat anything dog food. ive tried pedigree, iams, aloy or alplay or somethin i frogot and some other stuff.

Im telling you about these foods even though some members will reprimand me because if you are on a budget and not willing to spend much money, you can at least buy a tastier food. Good luck with your dog!

I'm sorry, I do know where you are coming from and I know that you are trying to make a point BUT those foods aren't healthy and there are better options available for the same cost per serving so there is no reason to push those foods. Just about anything Purina makes is better then Beneful.

 
Yep I know Beneful is the least healthy of all the Purina foods, but we are talking about a dog that is not eating. Beneful is full of sweetners and sprayed on fat which is why dogs enjoy the taste so if the dog is not eating at all I think it would be ok to feed Beneful for a little bit and slowly wean them off by adding, say a bit of the regular Purina until the dog is eating just Purina reg.
 
By the way, no matter what you feed put down that bowl of food twice a day, wait 20 minutes and if he hasn#%92t eaten it pick it up and take it away. For the second meal, do the same. He will eventually realize that if he doesn#%92t eat whats in his bowl he wont get anything else and will start to eat.
 
If this doesn#%92t work and you feel that the dog is starving himself please take him to the vet so that they can rule out any health problems. He may not be eating because he is just being stubborn or he may not be eating because he is sick
 

If you are going to do tough love, might as well do it with what you want to feed, tempting them to eat with different foods just encourages pickiness. It won't hurt a 3 year old to miss a few meals until he decides to eat what he's given cause he's not getting anything else.

If his attitude changes, if he stops drinking or if he acts sick or lethargic then get checked out by a vet.

Good point. Ive just never had a dog who refuses to eat and thought this would be a good way to go. But it does make sense to let him now that he will get this food and this food only if he doesn#%92t eat it, well too bad.
 
Would it be ok once the initial ‘strike#%92 is over to add a bit of canned food, or other things just to spice things up every once in a while?
 

what are you feeding? There are some foods that are not at all tasty and maybe you are feeding a food your dog doesnt like. Ive rarely met a dog that likes to eat Old Roy or Pedigree (the regular kind) Now if you are feeding this, Pedigree has some Lamb and Rice Lines that you could try and Beneful seems to work great with dogs.

You know LizzieCollie, Grrrrr!  I'm sorry, but are you trying to put everyone who enters on this forum on Beneful.  We have all explained why Beneful is not a good food. Over and Over.  If you want to feed a low quality food, fine, but save your money and buy plain old Purina Dog Chow.  No it will not taste as good as Beneful because it doesn't contain the loads of sugar and salt Beneful contains.
 
To many of us on this forum, it's like you are purposly trying to get back at us because your dog didn't do well on Exclusive.  By the way, did you even mix the food together for more than a day? 
 
And, in my opinion,  you are trying to poison the dogs of new posters.  Yes, that is how I feel about Beneful  - it's a slow death poison.  I can hear Purina Dog Chow and Pedigree and not get too upset, but in my opinion and in the opinion of many other people on this forum Beneful is poison.[:'(]

 my dog never looked 100% pitbull cuz hez a lil husky too but how do i get him to look like these dogs? just more food? cuz they look chunkier and the hair is different. thanks

Tou know what, im not trying to get everyone on Beneful. not like alot of people on here who start by telling a poster you should feed this or you should feed that.
 
Come on im trying to give the OP some low cost options im not trying to stick a 50 dollar bag of food at him, not everyone is willing/can afford a premium food and if this persons religion doesnt allow a dog outside then I assume its the same with indulging in expensive pet food.
 
I dont CARE if my dog is not doing well on Exclusive, I can try a different food but I am not angry or upset about it, hey things happen.

You cant your dog is a mix and that dog is probably pure. Lots of excersise, and more than one feeding a day may help some

But WHY Beneful?!? There are too many other options out there that are as cheap or cheaper and aren't as bad as Beneful. Even you said "Yep I know Beneful is the least healthy of all the Purina foods". Sorry but it does seem like you are pushing it just to irritate other people.

And no one is saying you or anyone else has to feed this or that... we're giving options that you or the original poster or lurkers can research and decide for yourselves.

Just came of the top of my head because of my experience with it. I also stated Pedigree, Purina, Old Roy so lets also say Alpo (YUCK) you have all those grcery store brands available to you, if you have a really low income.
 
Be glad I didnt mention Super Pet which is a food the dollar store sells, now that is a double [:'(]

You can't make him look any different than his genetics dictate.

so whats a good quality food for pitbulls?

no. like maybe that dog has more muscle or fat thats why. and am i supposed to ge tmy dog groomed to look like that hair cuz he doenst have much to begin with. thanks

If your dog is part husky, he will not have a slick coat like a pure Pit. But quality food and exercise can help with muscle tone.  If money is a problem, you can get foods like Blue Buffalo or Nutro Natural Choice for the same price as Iams and such, and they are better quality.  He may be holding out for people food because he doesn't like what you're giving him.  With what you've listed, I don't blame him!   And it could easily be the heat -- how long have you had him?  Since he was a puppy?
