    Hiya-

Bringing this up to the top for an update on my Pap's allergies.  We did decide to go with the Ketakonazole.  Sharky was on what the vet called a low dose for about a month.  She ended her course of treatment in September.  She's so much better I simply can't believe it.  In fact, I've put off posting an update because I keep thinking it will return...but it hasn't.  (I know intellectually it won't, but it's been such an improvement, a cure, really, that it's hard to believe.)  [sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif]

I want to thank all of you for your support and advice.  [:)]

When Shamrockmommy described her pup's swollen muzzle I knew I had to consider the Keta., even though I had serious concerns, because our pup had just started scratching her muzzle and would do so until it bled.  This was new and I was feeling desperate.  SM's success with her pup gave me the incentive to go forward with the Keta.

I did start her on a new food at that time: By Nature Organics Organic Turkey, Sweet Potato & Peas.  It's a wet food without grains and she's doing so well on it.  (I'm not sure about the manufacturer, so if anyone has info., I'm interested.  Blue Seal?  Seems industrial and I don't like their pull tabs, but that's another story.)  She has gained weight for the first time, which I had always wanted her to do.  Now she has a tiny bit of heft and her coat has grown in beautifully...and still filling in.  OMG.  She just hasn't looked this good in ages...or ever.

So, she's on no medications and happy and peppy and bursting with cheer!  [:D]

I'm not a regular poster, but wanted to say again how much I appreciated everyone's sincere advice to a virtual stranger.  It helped my girl get better and maybe this story will help someone else who is struggling as I was with this nasty problem.

I'm so glad that your girl is doing so well on that food! I've been wanting to try it, for my allergy girls. I definitely will, when I can find it in a store.

That is wonderful news; it's great that you took Shamrockmommy's advise and tried the medicine, and have found a food your dog does well on. Congratulations. [:D]

I can't tell you about Hollys life of yeast, of ketokonizole, I tried everything and I mean everything in the book.  She was on the anti-yeast AZMIRA tincture and Vit C right before her heart attack.  I feel guilty that maybe I overdid it overloading her body with things ultimately killed her.   But then, maybe it was the Lyme Disease that killed,,, I will never know what caused the tumor on heart but I suspect vaccines.  Her yeast started in the tail for 3 years and then went to the ear.   Holistically, I have since learned that,,,,you can't suppress the symptoms.  If you do, the symptoms will move closer to the head/brain.  That is all ketoconizole did.  It cured the tail ,,,but moved to the head (ears).  Yeast can kill.

Nyzmes,  ACV, coconut oil,  etc etc.  to name a few.

You must concentrate on improving her immune system.  Vitamins, garlic, DMG.  No more vaccines.  Raw meat.  No wheat, corn.  My last effort was contacting Monica Segal and she was on raw buffalo and buckwheat.  But, sadly, she died before I could see any improvement

But sorry to digress,,,the only dry food that made a diff was Solid Gold Fish and Oatmeal.  It took about 45 days to see a change.  It worked for a few months until a vet flushed her ears behind my back and ruined the PH

I saw that, but the cans are not on sale, unfortunately. I'd like to get some locally, so I can try one or two cans. I think my dogs will really like it.

Oh, Hollysmom, I'm sorry to hear about your dear Holly.  Don't feel guilty.  They don't want us to feel sad when we think of them.  I know about guilt from our dear little cat.  This was some time ago but I kept telling my vet she was sick, but he didn't find anything wrong until she was too ill to treat.  She was 13 or so-she was a rescue so we didn't know her true age-but too young to leave as far as I as concerned.  Anyway, when I think of her I send her loving thoughts and tell her how special she still is to us.  I don't send her my sorrow-sometimes it's very hard to control when I think of the pain she must have had-because I did everything I knew to do at the time, as you did with Holly.  Pardon me if I'm overstepping my bounds on such a sensitive issue.  You may not have the same beliefs I do.  Please know that it's just that I so deeply empathize that I wanted to respond.  [:(]

Your story shows what an intractable ;problem this can be.  I know it's a long thread, so don't blame you for not wading through it--I did try Chinese herbs, homeopathy and different high-grade commercical foods: Solid Gold, Wellness, etc.  I agree about the vaccines.  Only once, early on when we first got Sharky, did I vaccinate her with more than rabies.  I asked the vet about reactions and was told she would be fine.  She wasn't. [:@]  From that time on I have only agreed to rabies, because it's required.  This vet didn't used to think titers were accurate, but I refused vaccinations anyway.  Now titers are more accepted and whaddya know-her antibody levels have been fine.  I sometimes wondered if her problems started with that reaction, but don't know if, as you mentioned, it compromised her immune system.

P.S. Thanks all for overlooking spelling errors in my previous posts.  I read over this thread and realize I posted rather hastily and should've done a bit of proofreading first.  Aaaannnd I'll probably find a few more if I ever reread this post... [sm=blush.gif][sm=uhoh.gif]
