Does YOUR Eagle Pack kibble smell?

Ha, hows THAT for a subject line???
Seriously,,, we have been feeding Eagle Pack for several years, both to Ollie and Bubby. We have fed Natural and  Original the most...and more recently the Holistic lines.   I bought the Holistic Select Lamb and Rice Formula more than a few times...and now have one 33# bag of it along with a 33# bag of duck.   I fill up containers that last about a week of each, and give Bubby one formual for one week and then the other the next week.  This past time that I bought the Lamb and Rice and put it in the container,,,I thought it really smelled....I don't remember ever thinking that before with any of the Eagle formulas...except for maybe the small bag of anchovie that I purchased to see if they would like it.   Anyway,,,every time I opened that container I went "yuk,,,this smells" but gee,,,,I fed it to her anyway. It doesn't smell spoiled or rancid I don't think,,,not sure how to discribe it,,,just don't remember it smelling before.   This week she is eating the Duck and it does not smell bad.  BUT, other then saying "yuk" I just kept feeding it to Bubblegum and all is well,,,but today,,when DH fed her the Duck, he said "I don't  know what that other stuff was but I could hardly stand the smell of it everyday."  That immediately set off a lightbulb in my head.    He noticed it too and so it must have different than what he thinks also.  So here I am with a 33# bag of Lamb and Rice,,,with only about a weeks worth taken out,,,and no receipt to return it. And I'm not sure if I should return it either. Maybe it always did smell like that,,,but why did both of us say the same thing. I know she ate it for a week and never showed any sign of anything that it bothered her,,,nor did she balk and eating it.      I did write to Eagle today,,,but know it could be a day or so before getting an answer.
Does anyone out there feed the Holistic Select Lamb and Rice?  And if so, did anyone experience this?

Dyan, I think I'd take it back to where you purchased it and let them smell it.  I just started Max on the EP Holistic lamb & rice and to me, it looks and smells pretty much like the Kirkland.  Not bad, not rancid - just not something I'd want to eat myself.[:D]

The first thing I thought when I read the subject line was OH GREAT. I just bought a bag of Eagle Pack duck and also a few cans of the same.

Anyway, I've been feeding him California Natural Lamb and Rice and everytime I open the bag I think it smells disgusting. I really wonder if it's just the lamb smell....

Ok, I just went and stuck my nose in the container of Sensible Choice Lamb & Rice (got a weird look from BF for that one) - it doesn't stink. No worse than any dog food stinks.

I bought lamb and rice from a different manufacturer than EP,and it also had a odor to it, not bad just really different.

I feed the EP fish and it does have a distinct smell, but I have fed the lamb one and can't really remember a bad smell.

Okay, so I guess I need to hear from EAGLE PACK Lamb and Rice users......wonder if there are any out there???

Dyan, I have fed all of the Eagle Pack formulas and the only one I noticed a disttinct smell with was the anchovy and sardine formula. When i fed the lamb and rice it never had a bad smell.  I would definitly wait to hear from Eagle on this one or just return the bag.

I hope to hear from them tomorrow.   I just don't feel good about this now.
    Thank you for your opinion.

I have fed EP Lamb and Rice...I don't remember it smelling funny! Hmmm...I'd like to know what they say!

I just started a new bag of Sensible Choice lamb a couple days ago (someone gave it to us) and I'm ready to throw it out!  No smell from the bag but the dogs all have terrible runs and stink to high heaven!  And these dogs are used to eating just about anything, with no transition at all.  I don't get it.  I checked to make sure I was not overfeeding (overfeeding these guys?) and double checked the ingredients - nothing objectionable besides my bugaboo beet pulp.  That certainly isn't the problem.

Maybe all this lamb is coming from the same place and it's just really gross lamb.   There's huge differences in how lamb can be commercially raised and if a company doesn't say specifically that it's free range, it might be stockyard lamb. Wait, no, you said it's holistic - is the EP free range?

Maybe it was a bad year for sheep?  LOL.  But mine look fantastic.

I would think something was different since you feed this and dont usually notice the smell.  I dont have any idea if the issue would be a reason not to feed it, but would think you should contact them.   Maybe save some and then in the future when you buy it again you can compare and then will know for sure.

I feed the anchovy... Minnie loves it, and boy it sure stinks like fish, lol.  But no really... from what your describing it sounds like you oughtta look into it.
