Vegetarian Recipes?

I can find the fresh veggie section easy enough but when one goes to look for things like veggie burgers or whatever then it seems like everything is in separate places!

I can say that the idiots in the isles don't help none.  I can be the all time rudest person when I'm shopping out of frustration.  Who the heck parks their shopping cart in the middle of isles so they can look or talk with people.  I stood behind a couple the other day for almost a minute while they were looking and they didn't even bother to move out of the center even when they know you're there waiting to get by.  Keep to the sides so others can get by or pass you....idiots.  I don't get some people.  Let's just say a really good bump to the back of their cart and some excessive remarks got them moving....got me some weird looks also!  LOL

I'm making Beet soup today....I'll let you know how it goes!

Johnny, in the regular grocery stores around here a lot of the veggie burgers and stuff like that are in the area with the salads and fresh produce.  Let's see, the Morning Star Farms and Boca burgers are frozen, if that helps.  And, the brand I like Veggie Patch, it usually with the salad and fresh veggies and fruit.  It's refrigerated but not frozen.  My store has it very close to the hummus, dips and refrigerated salad dressings.

    How was the soup??

Don't think I'll be trying the beet soup anymore....not sure if I might have did something wrong but it didn't taste the greatest.  I love beets so I figured it would have been great....was I ever wrong!

I made brocolli soup thismorning and it turned out awesome!  Here's the recipe in case anyone wants to try.

CREAM OF BROCCOLI SOUP WITH CHEDDAR
    CHEESE

    2 c. milk
    3 tbsp. butter
    2 tbsp. finely chopped onion
    3 tbsp. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. white pepper
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/2 tsp. granulated garlic
    2 chicken bouillon cubes
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
1 c. cooked finely chopped broccoli
Cook onions in butter until tender. Blend in flour and seasonings and cook 3 to 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Add boiling water and bouillon cubes and cook slowly until thick, stir in the milk until smooth. Add the cheese and broccoli and heat through. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley. Serves 6.

Well, I finally found some No-Meat burgers in the store!!!  Gonna give them a try tonight!

I'll have to try that soup recipe. Looks yummy. Did you use veggie bouillon cubes?

I bought some "SmartDogs" last week. They were so bad. They had absolutely no flavor. I was so disappointed. I wish Morningstar Farms would bring back their corn dogs. Crying

I didn't add ANY chicken bouillon cubes.  I'm horrible for following recipes so I changed a few things.  I didn't add the cubes and I only added a half cup of milk and 1 cup of cream instead (makes it much more creamier).  I saw the no meat smartdogsd the other day in the store but didn't get any.  WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for me.  Corn Dogs....hmmm.

I just put my first attempt at the tomoato pie recipe (from Truley on pg. 1) in the oven...I can't wait for it to finish! And, I'm already trying to figure out how to get blue cheese into the mix for next time. I'm guessing some of the Jack or cheddar will need to stay in...time to experiment :-)

Update: OMG--that recipe is fabulous! I didn't have any basil, so I left it out. No problem. And, on second thought, I don't think I'd go with blue cheese--it might overpwer the whole thing. The pie was delicious and it was a treat to eat tomatoes in the middle of winter! (I usually won't pay for them this time of year :-)  There's bacon in the recipe, but you could omit that easily.

I've been thinking about making a mushroom lasagna for the longest time and FINALLY made one yesterday.  It turned out pretty good but I think there was just a bit too much cheese on it.  (too many cals for me).

Just a quick question for ya all.....Someone was telling me yesterday that some vegetarians don't consider chicken as meat and eat it.  Now, I've always looked at chicken as meat and won't eat it but I DO eat fish.  What are your thoughts on this....what's eatable and what isn't?

Anyhow, I'll have enough lasagna to last me a few days.  No need to cook today!  :)

When I lived in a veg household, we ate no meat (fish, chicken, beef, etc.) We did eat eggs and milk products (goat and cow) from local farmers (so we knew how the animals were raised and cared for).

Most vegetarians don't eat meat at all, including chicken or fish. I think it depends on the individual's rationale for being a vegetarian. If it's for health reasons, I can see where some might not eat red meat but would eat chicken or fish. It's kind of a flawed way of thinking in terms of health though. Some chicken is fattier than a lean cut of red meat. Pork always had a bad rap too but there are some cuts of pork that are leaner than some beef or chicken.

I guess I just can't see how someone would be considered a vegetarian if they ate chicken.  Now you got me thinkin of fish now!  I luvs fish so I can't see me ever giving it up.  I really enjoy catching my own when I get the chance also!

I don't eat any meat including chicken.  And, I don't eat fish.  I never really did anyway other than tuna.  But, MANY people I know still eat fish but not other meat.
