This one is ALWAYS a hit anywhere I take it.  I use blue cheese dressing instead of ranch though.

Jackie, isn't hummus (the word) from one of the Middle Eastern languages?  Maybe just try calling it mashed chick peas or garbanzo beans and see if that helps. Big Smile

One the word itself conjures up some sort of unpleasant image of well, I don't know what, but I don't like the word.  Weird, I know.

LOL - that's kind of funny but I have things I feel the same way about. You should just give it a try but if you've never had it, you might try some premade so at least you've only wasted a little money and not a bunch of time. They have a roasted red pepper hummus (again, at Trader Joes) and DH loves that stuff.

Now that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, now does it?   LOL  I am bound and determined to try some now and if we had Trader Joes, I'd be on my way there this minute. lol   Do you suppose they have mashed chick peas at Mararoni Grill?  I'll just have to let you know tomorrow....... :)

Well ... you might have to roll it out a little.  Gaaar - baaan - zo.  Kinda rolls a bit.  When I was a teenager I had a friend whose mom used to make an incredible salad of just garbanzo beans, finely snipped green onions and a bit of olive oil. You could actually just buy a couple of cans of them, smash them up to the consistency you like and add whatever you want to it.  When they're mashed up, they're used mostly as a really nutritious and low fat dip or a spread on crackers.  I'm going to make a Costco run tomorrow.  I'll try to remember to check to see if they have any.

What's funny Joyce is that I have cooked with garbanzo beans, added them to soups, etc.  Knowing me, I have a can or two in the back of the pantry, probably expired dates......I love most any type of bean, although they don't all love me back, if you get my drift.....

Garbanzo does actually roll off the tongue and I like that word. lol  Chick peas, not so much, that sounds like something you'd feed chickens.  I'm a marketing person's nightmare or maybe their perfect test subject. lol

Another easy one to make- spread a container of soft cream cheese in the bottom of an oven proof dish (disposable works great.  LOL), cover with a can of canned chili, and some shredded cheddar cheese and bake until heated through/cheddar cheese is melted.  I think I baked it for 30 minutes at 350.  Serve with tortilla chips.

This one is good but also I do one kind of like this that is just as good.

Do the same with the cream cheese...then  spread a layer of Pizza sauce...I love the Ragu Pizza Sauce ( for some reason I do not like Pizza Quck Pizza Sauce by Ragu )  and mozzarella cheese...bak the same way.  Yummy!

     Oo, that sounds delish, Dyan!

    Another easy and good dip:

    Olive Dip

5 oz jar green olives (with pimentos)
    2 – 8 oz packages cream cheese
    1/2 cup mayonaise
    1 small onion

In a food processor, blend the cream cheese and mayonaise with the green olives and a few thin slices of onion (to taste) until smooth. Thin the mixture to your liking by adding some of the juice from the olive jar. You can also adjust the amount of green olives you include to your preference (start with 2/3 jar and add more as taste desires). Serve chilled with chips, crackers or vegetables.

OMG! I love dip recipes! This is my favorite one- every New Years Eve, the people always request it!

     Rye Boat Dip

     1 cup mayo

1 cup sour cream (I usually put more sour cream in here than mayo in the end, just buy a pint, and add to taste)

1 jar chipped beef (found in the tuna fish/spam isle of the store)

    1/2 onion

1 tbs dill (again, also to taste)

Mix all up together in food proccessor, and let sit overnight in refrigerator. Get full rye bread (unsliced) and cut out a circle to put dip in, use the remaining bread you just cut out as the dipping. The way I found, the darker the rye the better (we use pumpernikel)
