I got Monica Segal's booklet on enhancing a commercial diet, and she says in the booklet that some dogs do well with raw eggs but some dogs will vomit. She says if your dogs don't tolerate the raw version you can cook them any way you want.

Neither of my dogs like egg whites so I just feed the yolks. I probably give them an egg yolk 3-4 times per week. They do fine with it.

I figure I eat undercooked eggs whenever I eat them (over easy with runny yolks). I've never been sick from them. I do only eat (and my dogs only eat) organic free range eggs that I buy directly from the farmer. I personally think they taste better, and they also hold together better for over easy eggs. Grocery store eggs have really brittle shells, and I have seen how they keep those chickens. I won't eat them.

Kord gets a whole egg and has never had an issue. I actually give him an egg, out of the carton, still whole. He breaks it and eats it all.

Well considering we've never had a problem with any raw eggs or meat, or fish, I'd say the benefits here far far outweigh the risks.

Truley, how did you get Kord to crack and eat the egg whole?  Mine will crack them, but they just clean out the shell and leave it.  I have to crush the shell up into tiny pieces and mix it in with their food of they pick around it.

hehe, when he was a puppy I would crush the whole thing in his bowl. Now when I give it to him he drops it and then just sucks it all up, occasionally he will leave the shell behind, but not often.

My little chihuahua will carry off the egg, poke a tiny hole in it, suck the egg out, and leave the shell for the pomeranians.....it's so funny to watch!

Obviously I have to give him his egg outside....figured that out years ago.

Heehee, Ben does that too.  He gets all excited if I get out an egg and lean down to put it in his bowl.  For the next 3 minutes all I hear is *slurp* *crunch* *slurp* *crunch*.

I have no issue feeding raw eggs.  I buy organic free range, and in any case I eat meringues, raw cookie dough, lick the beaters on pancake batter etc,  (Man it sounds like I eat really unhealthy food now LOL...I don't very often.)  Those all have raw eggs in them if made fresh (and without egg substitute).  It's just a non-issue for me, I think people worry too much about this stuff sometimes, but I also think that if feeding something makes a person nervous, there is no real reason to do it.  Find some other treat for your dog and be comfortable about it.

I've found quail eggs are good for the dogs who wont eat a whole chicken egg, also probably the perfect size for the little guys.

I feed raw egg almost every day and see no reason to stop.  It has helped Kenya's coat and her appetite.  Of course an egg CAN half salmonella, but so can a lot of things.  I think too many people think that because it's raw, it has salmonella.  Not true.  There's a few people on the GSD board that give their dogs one meal a day that's entirely eggs.

Wow!  Entirely eggs?  I wonder how many eggs it would take to feed Crusher.  I've never even counted the eggs in with thier food, or cut out any of thier kibble when I add an egg.  I just add it.  How many calories are in an egg?
