Oh, now someone HAD to go mention buffalo wings . . .dinner suddenly seems kind of lame . . .
Border collies are pretty hard chewers in general so chicken wings are baby puppy food around here. Even Zhi can take down a pork neckbone or lamb rib pretty efficiently. Rocky, my latest baby puppy, came from a place where he got whole chickens (feathers and all) and beef parts from the first day of solid food. So he came equipped to handle whatever I could throw at him, from ten weeks old!
I was a nervous wreck the first time. It was different from not knowing what to do - I was just plain nervous from actually launching the new plan. I had a fantastic mentor to help me transition them properly but it still didn't help the nervousness. It was more complicated for me, too, because I was going over completely from kibble to raw, plus I was feeding a baby puppy.
If you feel really nervous, you can take a mallet and mash the wing up. Note that it will mash up, rather than shatter as you'd think. Run the result between your fingers to see how it feels (no sharp pieces, right?) and then feed with confidence! [
