Lori, I know with Willow you have had more than your share of vet visits. It can be so stressful!

I held off taking him to the vet for about an hour and Gingerbread got much better. I think his pain medication kicked in. I'm glad that I didn't have to take him back and hopefully he'll just keep getting better.

Poor Gingerbread... I hope he gets better soon and I'm so relieved it wasn't worse. Whew!!

Please, Please have him checked for disk disease.  Shi's are prone to this.  April was Pekinese/Maltese and Peke's are known for this disease too.  The shivering is a sign of pain.  April would have these episodes, then one day she was paralized and could not walk, that is when we took her to Philly straight from the Dr.'s office.  They gave her meds there and she was okay for a bit and then another episode of being paralized.  That is when we had the surgery done and of course you know the rest.  My prayers are with you and your little one.

This happened to Tootsie about a month ago, same symptoms. Turned out it was a strained back, after two weeks of Rimadyl and no exercise, except to potty shes fine. She is no longer allowed to jump on the couch and hasn't even tried the bed. Shes now a floor dog only. I sit on the floor a lot.

I'm having a hard time keeping him off the furniture. Auburn, how do they check for disc disease?

If I remember correctly, they put  a blue dye in them to get the xray, I think that is how it is done.  I had to take April to Philadelphia hospital to do that.  That is how they found the bad disks  I was lucky though, that April never jumped up on anything nor did she ever do stairs.

Our neighbors up the street have a Shi with disk disease, they keep her quiet all the time, no jumping, nothing, they have her on cortizone shots.  Most of the time she sits in her crate though.  Only outside to wee etc for a minute or two.  Feel bad for all of them.

Canine Degenerative Disk Disease  google and you can read about it also.

Thank you Auburn so much for the info. Gingerbread has still been in a lot of pain, shivering with wild eyes. The e-vet said to double the dosage of his pain meds and that's helping a little, but I'm going to take him to our regular vet in the morning. I'm really worried about him and so stressed out right now. :(

I would probably crate him for the time being to be sure he doesn't jump onto furniture.  Hope the vet visit gets him some relief. It's hard when our kiddos are in pain.

My prayers are with you and Gingerbread and big hugs for both of you too,  please keep us informed on what is going on.
