Is he able to walk??  Did this happen suddenly or has he been acting funny all night?

    • Gold Top Dog

Thank you for your quick reply! He can walk and this is sudden- only within the last hour or so. He ate a bully stick earlier tonight, I wonder if that could have anything to do with it.

I don't like the trembling aspect of it.

It could be a fearful behavior.... or extreme pain.  You have to try to figure out what it is.  If you are unsure, I think it maybe E-vet time.

If he's not moving of his own accord (as opposed to trying to hide) I think it's time to head out.

I"m thinking of you guys -- post an update!

You could call the emegency animal hospital and ask for their opinion.

    Hope your pup is okay!

How big of a bully stick, did he eat all of it?  Are bully sticks a normal treat for him?

He can walk, good.  But, does he mind walking?  Does he seem dizzy... or reluctant to move? Or is he willingly walking/moving around?  Will he take a treat from you (don't give him much, just take something yummy and see if he's willing to eat it)?

You could.... but, IME they will say "Bring him in."  So, if you call be prepared for that answer.

when you say he can't get on furniture... what do you mean? Unwilling to try? Or is he uncoordinated?  Seems too weak...?

    • Gold Top Dog

It was a medium sized bully stick. He's only had one before, about a week ago, but didn't eat as much at one time. He's not dizzy, just reluctant to move and not going anywhere. I just offered him a small piece of cheese and he ate it.

Edited to add that he was able to jump on the couch once awhile ago. He seemed either weak or in pain.

You're going to have to go with your gut on this.

It's hard to say if he's just got an upset stomach.. frightened or something else entirely.

If he's willing to eat and not in distress (panting or crying in addition to his trembling) I'd personally give it a bit of time to see if it passes. But, if at any point you think it's getting worse... you should consider getting to your e-vet.

    I hope he's OK!!

Sure, but wouldn't hurt to try. Just another option. I've had past experience in which technicians were very helpful and gave me in-home suggestions so that I ended up not having to spend the money or time to take my kids in.

Anyways, that's besides the point. Is he still trembling? Are any of his unusual behaviors progressively getting worse?

oh, i didnt see this... how's he doing now?

if money isnt an issue, and you havent had any bad exeriences with an e-vet before, i'd take him in, just to be on the safe side. otherwise just watch closely...

    i hope he's ok...!

I just typed a long reply and it didn't go through. He's not trembling anymore. He's still laying on the bed, which is where I put him when I started this thread. I took another small piece of cheese and put it a few steps away from him on the bed. He slowly got up, walked over and ate it. Then just stood there for about 30 seconds, then sat for another 30 seconds ago and laid down right in that spot. Normally he gets VERY excited about treats and would have jumped down to follow me back to the kitchen, spinning in circles. I'll go ahead and call the emergency vet to get their opinion.

I hope no news is good news... I've been checking every few minutes.

I'm looking forward to an update that he's doing fine by morning :)
