Yay for Cooper -- YOU need to take care of yourself.  And congrats on your graduation!!

Glad to read that everyone is doing so well.

Coop's mom--Willow stopped jumping up on the couch for months too.

And, she still doesn't jump right into the back seat of my car anymore.  That all started when she was sick and has continued, she jumps from the ground to the floor of the car and then up on the back seat.

Yeah, Pirate didn't jump anywhere, for a while.

Congrats on graduating! What did you get a master's in?

    • Puppy

Did your dogs not jump on the couch because they were sick and then were babied and believed they couldn't or because they physically couldn't. Sometimes I think he just likes to stand there and look at me while waiting me to help him.

I got my masters in Education as a Reading Specialist. Since I teach first grade it is a good thing to have and maybe later in life I might decide to be a reading teacher. :)

    Thanks for the congratulations.

I've seen the complaint about dogs not wanting to jump while they are anemic.

This jumping thing is just something that seems to come up over and over, almost every dog owner with an IMHA dog has noticed this.

After the PCV got into the 40's Cyclops started playing with Domingo again and her willingness to climb stairs and jump up on things improved.

What gets me is he is different all the time Not too long ago he was jumping on the couch and was playing fetch a lot. This weekend he wasn't jumping on the couch and now today since I got home, he isn't going up the stairs as fast. I don't know what is the difference each day. He's getting the same meds and his gums haven't looked lighter. The big mystery...

It could be many things.  It wouldn't surprise me if the side effects of being on 3x different meds are just taking their toll.  Cyclops was on Cyclo for 4 weeks and then when we got the right Cyclo she suddenly became lame, unable or unwilling to even stand up.  Kind of off balance and just kind of feeling "blah".  Once she got used to the meds and then we reduced the meds is when she really perked up.

Thats the bad thing about dogs as patients - we can't ask them how they're feeling.  Or what they are feeling.   Who knows maybe the meds are making Coops dizzy or just kind of weak.

Hopefully once you start tapering off the pred he'll pick up.

    • Gold Top Dog
    Oh, he's on pred?

I actually brought this up at the time with Pirate's vet - it's because the pred begins to break down their cartilage in the joints, which hurts, I guess. Pirate sprained his 'wrist' back then, too, walking down the sidewalk. He was literally walking down the sidewalk and SCREAMED in pain and started limping.

Coop's mom, one of my most recent professors had a master's in reading - she teaches how to teach reading!

Willow actually tried jumping up a few times and was all stuck with her legs dangling and I had to help her.  So, after that she didn't attempt it again.  I think the medication just took it's toll and she wasn't feeling well.

Then later I think she had gained so much weight from the Prednisone that she couldn't even if she wanted too.

But, now I'm not sure why she doesn't jump right in the car??  Lazy!!

Meg and Lori both of you are describing the Pred effect better than I could put into words.  I remember when I first started Clops on Pred that Cali mentioned the cartilage thing too.  I forget if that was one of the reasons she suggested the NutraJoint was to help with that or not.

Its funny in a way because when this all started I thought of Pred as such an "innocent" drug compared to the others, mainly because I've known people that have had to take it, cancer patients, and in some cases the benefit has outweighted the side effects.

I really hope Val can get Coops off the Pred soon.

    • Gold Top Dog

ABSOLUTELY that is why I tell folks to give the Knox NutraJoint with the pred.  Prednisone messes with the viscoscity of the cartilage -- it breaks it down so it disintigrates. The Knox helps rebuild it.  Not just hydrate it -- REBUILD it.

It's helpful to hear from all of you that you saw the same thing with your dogs. I just can't stand to see him like this. He started digging outside and eating dirt again. I checked his gums and they don't look at all light or white. I don't understand. When he was outside and my husband called him to come inside, he turned around and he lost balance and fell over.

I just bought the Knox Nutra Joint. How much should I give and how often?

Three messages in a row from me... sorry. Cooper has been playing with his baby and acting fine still. We had some ice cream tonight and when I was done, I put my bowl on the couch and guess who was able to jump on the couch? I'm thinking he doesn't jump on the couch because it might bother him and it's not really worth it just to lay up there. When there was something he really wanted, he was able to jump. I guess writing on here helps me think things through and sometimes makes me feel better. Sorry so much from me in one night.
