Today is the day Cooper gets his PCV. The vet said last week that I didn't have to bring him in for another 3 weeks but I am going to anyway. I want to talk to my regular vet and see if she will call Arboretum and see what he thinks about Cooper having a UTI and possibly lowering the Pred. I know that he said he wanted to make sure Cooper was in the normal range for 2-3 weeks before changing his meds.

Thanks for wishing Cooper good luck, Meg. I am really excited for Grey's tonight!! Gotta love Thursday night tv.

I am really excited for Grey's tonight!!

(Sorry to go OT, but I'm sure Cooper's mom doesn't mind....)

UGH - my BF made plans for us with his parents. I haven't seen them in a while and they're buying us dinner. I'm hoping I can be home by 9! I might have to watch it online tomorrow. Sheesh, doesn't he know it's Thursday?!

Hope cooper has a good vet visit.  Grey's Anatomy?  Never seen it.  I was never big with TV until Tessy got this disease....now it seems hard to pull away from some shows.

Give Coop hugs and high paws from Tessy.

    Grey's Anatomy?  Never seen it.

It's on ABC here - I don't know if they have it in Nova Scotia! This season's episodes are on ABC.com - it's basically a dirty romance novel trying to disguise itself as a medical drama-type show.

All I care about on TV right now is if John Locke is going to kill Jacob.. and who is Jacob anyway?

     Wish Coop's PCV was posted.

    • Gold Top Dog

That has got to be my favorite show.  I get sooo upset if I miss it!  Yeah...as far as Jacob and who he is...???...I'm going to go ahead and guess that it is another OTHER who is in kahoots with Richard and Ben....or maybe Richard is really Jasob?  Does he have 4 toes?  My last guess would be that it is in fact Locke when he is older.  He has to go kill himself!

Anyhow....hope everyone is doing good today.

I'm freaking out. Cooper won't jump on the couch and he's acting all sad. His stomach is seriously sounding like it has bubbles in it.

I don't know what you mean about bubbles in it?  Does he have an appetite?

Its 45 minutes since you posted.

Let me know whats going on.

Here's the update. On Thursday, I had booked an appointment and the receptionist called me back and wondered if something was wrong with Cooper or if I didn't realize that the dr. said I could come back in 3 weeks. When I called back I told her I really wanted to talk to my regular vet since she is there only at the end of the week and I wasn't sure she knew about Cooper's UTI. So, she told me to let the antibiotic finish out (Tuesday) and on Thursday come in with a urine sample. We will have the liver screen, CBC, and a urinalysis. I'm ok with that. Cooper is feeling good and I don't necessarily need to have a PCV this week even though I am curious. She said after all of that she'll talk to the Arboretum vet and figure out if we can lower the Pred. She thought as long as he was in the 30's we probably could. Friday morning Cooper was very playful and kept carrying his baby around. My sister was home with him all day on Friday and she said he was being a baby. He wouldn't jump on the bed and he wanted to be picked up a lot. Then when I got home from work he wasn't jumping on the couch at all. I had to pick him up every time he jumped down because of course if anyone gets up, he assumes he will get a treat or some food. When I went to feed him, his regular food was out! I thought we more in the garage, but I was wrong. I did have a bag of Wysong so I feed the dogs that. I know you are supposed to go really slow and introduce dogs to new food (so I've been told). Since I had friends coming over, I fed the boys the new stuff. They ate it without any problems, their beagles. They'll eat anything. :) Since some of my college friends were over last night (girls night in) I was able to keep a good eye on him. He kept acting sad and loving that my friends would pick him up and hold him. By the time they were getting ready to leave the house, I noticed that Cooper's tummy was making bubbly noises/loud gurgles. No clue what the heck was going on. I don't know if it was his food digesting or something. Not sure if it is because they different food. He drank a lot last night and ended up having 2 accidents in the house during the night. (at least they were on the bathroom tile. Somehow whenever he has accidents in the house, he always knows to go on the tile instead of the carpet. :) His UTI antibiotic goes until Tuesday. I don't know if it is going away or not. Well, now it's almost 6am. He woke up my husband around 4:30 to go out. He woke up again at 5:30 to go out and I fed him. As I am writing this, his stomach is making noises. I should have listened before I fed him but I didn't think of it since I was half asleep. Not sure what is going on with him. He is acting somewhat better than last night but is currently staring at the couch thinking about trying to jump on it to lay down. After a minute he just laid down on the floor right next to the couch. Poor guy.

One time I switched my dog's food too quickly and the house was filled with terrible farts.  I had to give cooked chicken breast with rice for 3 days and then re-introduce food to her again.  So ya.. sudden switch of dog food may cause stomach to be upset.

What you are going through right now is the reason why I couldn't wait more than a week between PCV's.  I kept getting so nervous and paranoid that it just made me feel so much better to never be more than 7 days from the last reading.  Appetite is a good indicator, but by the time they do lose their appetite the PCV is usually so low you need a transfusion.  Then you can also check the gums, but my eyes would play tricks on me with that too and I'd be freaking out that they didn't have enough color.

If it were me I'd go get a quick blood draw by any vet and have him run an in house CBC and tell you what the count is.

    • Gold Top Dog

We did weekly blood draws for a year and only went to every other week late in the treatment.

Switching food is tough when you feed kibble.I haven't done that in many years so I'm no help.

     Any news on Coops?

    • Gold Top Dog

Haven't heard from her but it's a busy weekend for many, I guess.

Sorry, I had my graduation yesterday for my master's. Cooper has been eating his regular food and I no longer hear the noises in his tummy. He's still not jumping on the couch at all. He's been eating like normal and his gums look good. He's acting ok. Cooper chased birds today and was excited when my mom came over. Clearly I take better care of my dogs than I do myself because now I'm sick. :) He finishes his antibiotic on Tuesday for his UTI. We have an appointment on Thursday to get a urinalysis, liver screen, and CBC.
