Hey, JackieG! I'm in Central Texas, too (Temple)! My vet gave me Oravet gel last teeth cleaning I had done for Button (my 4 y.o. bicolor). But Button won't let you get NEAR her mouth, to brush, medicate, or rub gel on them! She's the most docile, unpresuming, sweet passive dog until someone tries to mess with her mouth! Then she is all teeth and will snap! I honestly did all the puppy conditioning you're supposed to do with them, but it just didn't work with this girl. Only way anyone is gonna mess around inside her mouth is under anesthesia!!!!!
So I can't brush her teeth either. Sadlyl I'm resigned to just having to have them cleaned professionally once a ayear in Feb when there's a dental month discount.
My tri-color, Zipper will let you mess with her mouth, so I have been rubbing it on her teeth with some success. But to be honest, they get much "natural" teeth cleaning they need, from the raw meaty bones diet I have had them on since January. Freshens their breath, too! And Zipper was put on this diet at age one, so her teeth just haven't accumulated any tartar at all, really. And as long as I continue the RMB diet, I don't think she'll be needing the Oravet after I use up what I have.
