Itching in the morning

    Itching in the morning

Maze has developed this weird habit.. She scratches almost continually in the morning before her first walk of the day.  It's been going for a while now. It started when we were working out her allergies and I had her on Benedryl. But that's all cleared up and I don't give it to her anymore, unless she has a flare up. But ever since then she'll scratch when she gets up for the day.

She doesn't even scratch after naps or at night just first thing in the morning.. It's not really a problem but it is getting annoying now. Though I think it's just a habit for her now but she's not pulling out any fur and she stops when I tell her to (for a few seconds).

    Any suggestions?

What kind of bedding does she sleep on at night?  Maybe try changing it?  My family's Westie is allergic to wool & other fabrics, so we have to be careful what type of bedding we buy for him.  That would seem like the most probable cause since it's only in the morning.

Bedding was my thought as well.  Altho it could also be a circulation thing -- if she sleeps so hard she shuts off circulation in a weird position it would give her the prickles when she wakes.

She basically sleeps where ever she wants, but her favorite place is my comfy arm chair.  She does sleep in a tight tiny ball now that I've got the chair out of hiding (it was buried under boxes for awhile). I guess it could be circulation.. Hmmmm

One of my ratties itches a lot in the mornings, too, but the other one doesn't.  I do think it's bedding with the one girl, because within an hour, the scratching stops.   I wash their folded up quilt pad and in winter, their fleece blanket frequently.  Neither dog has fleas, for sure.  But the itchy one has mild allergies as well, so who knows.
