Co-Co has a lump!

    Co-Co has a lump!

Last night I noticed that Co-Co has a big lump on her neck.  It's probably 4-5 inches long, 2 inches wide, and raised about (I'm guessing) an inch.  It was still the same size this morning as it was last night.  It feels squishy like it's fluid and it looks like when we had to give her fluids.  I hadn't noticed it before last night, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before, but I'll be honest, the dogs haven't gotten my 100% attention the last few days.  My friend said she hadn't noticed it either, but I can't say it hasn't been there for a day or so.  I *know* it wasn't there saturday, but that's the last day I can give a deffinite.

As soon as the vet opens I'm calling for an appointment but unitll then I was wondering if you all had any ideas?

ETA:  It doesn't hurt her.  I was messing w/ it and she didn't seem bothered by it at all.

Called the vet and unless someone cancels today they can't see her until 4:50 tomorrow.  They took my number and said they'd call me if anyone cancels.

Could it be a cyst?  Please let me know how itcomes out.  Give Coco some luvins from me.

Has she had an injury lately?

Usually, the fatty feeling, squishy, moveable ones are nothing to worry about. They are called fatty tumors. If it is on the harder side and feels like it is connected to something inside then that could be bad. Either way, have your vet check it out. They can asporate (sp) it easily and tell you with in a few mins.

Has she had an injury lately?

She stayed at the inlaws when we were in FL and her and Mystic broke out of the kennel run that they had.  In doing that, she cut herself in that area, but its mostly healed up now, just some scabs.  Now that I think about it, she did have a little bump there when I was checking her after we picked her up which I attributed to her cut.  I guess that bump could have grown...

It's deffinitely squishy.  I didn't really feel if it felt connected or not, I'll have to check that.

I'm hoping the vet calls and we can get in today, waiting till tomorrow will be nerve racking.

I'm not sure what it could be, depending on where on the neck maybe a swollen lymph node??  Good luck at the vet!!

If she had an injury there it could be an abscess.

I'm glad you're getting her in -- it's likely connected with the injury so tell the vet.  Your vet *should* aspirate it and look at it under a microscope which likely will tell the tale of fatty lipoma or cyst or whatever.  Good luck -- I'll give you a shout later tonight.

An abscess would make sense.  The tech on the phone also said that since it feels squishy like there's fluid there it could be a cyst from an ingrown hair, or a fatty tumor.  She said as long as it wasn't super painful and that it isn't affecting her breathing than it should be ok to wait for tomorrows appoinment.

I just tend to go into panic mode as soon as there is something wrong w/ the dogs.  I'm always certain its the worst possible thing and I'm going to lose them.  This site is good b/c you all give me other options to consider that I wouldn't have thought of.

I'll be sure to let ya'll know what the vet says tomorrow.

I know what you mean, I'm exactly that way. Good luck tomorrow and a kiss for Co-Co.

How's Co-Co doing; was it an abcess? I didn't want to worry you before you took Co-Co to the vet, but a grade 3 mast cell tumor grows very fast, starting out as a small lump and becoming much larger in a few days. It was most likely an abcess though since she had been injured. Sending healing vibes.

I just talked to Steph on the phone --- it wasn't major but she's got drugs and she'll post all about Co-co's adventure soon as she can get caught up and get online. (Aunt Callie just checking on all her chicks tonight *grin*)

Sorry, it took so long to update you all.  It has just been one thing after another today.  The vet said it wasn't an abscess yet, but if not drained it would be.  It had gotten even bigger by the time we got her in.  The knocked her out (can't spell the proper term) and drained it and put in drains so fluid will continue to come out.  My poor pup looks like Frankenstein.  Her neck is all shaved and she's got a drain sticking out each side.  I have to hold a warm compress to the drains 3-4 times a day till monday, when the drains are removed.  I put socks on her back feet to help keep her from digging at the drains.  I was also given antibiotics for her.  She is allowed out on a leash for potty only for about 2 weeks according to the papers sent home with her.

Yeouch; poor pup!! I'm glad she's going to be okay though. By the way, your sig is beautiful.

    Aw, thanks!

Co-Co isn't thrilled about being having her activities restricted.  But she looks so cute walking around w/ her socks, I just giggle when I see her, which is keeping us both in a better mood :o)
