Groomer Has It

I've been grooming for 4 years, and I've never done a Porti, or a Low Chen. I've never SEEN one outside of a dog show..... I've groomed two Pulik, though. One in cords and one senior clipped down. I've groomed LOTS of Chinese Cresteds. I really think it just depends on the area and experience of the individual.

Ooh la la, did you separate cords and all that?  I've read about how you wash and dry corded coats, and it sounded very time consuming.

No rare breeds here.  Seriously, I've had ONE Afghan Hound, ONE Standard Poodle, and, er, one Goldendoodle?  Do rare MUTTS count?  LOL!

Yes! Seperated cords and allWink He was just visiting, unfortunately. I had FUN picking those cords!

I have two Afghans, owned by the same lady. I groom a good few St Poos. I wish I'd brought my camera, the other day, when I did my Abby Doodle girl. She's black, but at a year and a half, she's silvering out. I've got  her in a lamb clip, with a #3 on the back and scissored legs. It looks wonderful, on her.  I have a white St Poo I groom very regularly, too. Cicero just gets a kennel clip.

I groom a couple of Brussells Griffons.  I got to groom a PBGV a couple of times, but it was just feet and a sanitary. Onslo actually came. From. France. *swoon* I groom a Standard Schnauzer. He's pretty great. I *love* doing the odd breeds. I've done a shocking number of Wheatons, and a Kerry Blue. I was the most experienced groomer at my old salon, so I did a fair amount of dog-stealingWink I'd offer to trade an easy groom, for a groom one of the girls didn't know how to do. Poor girls were so stressed they took it every time! I *love* a challenge! That's why I groom!

I watched the Bearded Collie episode (for obvious reasons) and because my old club, the Bearded Collie Club of So. Cal were having their Beardies groomed. I think everyone did a decent job with the brush outs, but one comment by the judge really bugged me. She was complaining that one of the dogs had staining on his beard and that the groomer should have "scrubbed harder" or "washed the beard 5 or 6 or 7 times" until the stain was out.

Now I thought these judges had experience in the field of grooming? They should know that removing saliva stains from white fur is nigh impossible and if ANY groomer had managed to turn a yellow beard sparking white by merely scrubbing, then they'd be miracle workers.

I thought that about the saliva stains also.  I thought "Scrub with what???"  I'd love to know what miracle product would remove those stains after dealing with them on Woobie's butt!

The "Blueberry facial" type products do a fine job of removing stains over a period of time, but certainly not ONE grooming session.  I think it was just a way to kick that girl off.  The grooms were pretty much all the same quality, IMO.

I missed the last episode, who got booted?

It's on tonight right? I seen a preview for the new one, sad seeing all of the matted dogs that were in the shelter, but happy that they are getting to groom and help dogs that need it. I'm really pulling for Artist now.

That woman is the head of the humane society or something. She's crazy. I intentionally soaked a Schnauzer's beard in whitening, then washed it 10 times (literally) the day after that show, JUST to prove her wrong in my head. She really got on my nerves, and she just told America that I could have gotten Fluffy's face "clean" if I'd just washed it! PLEASE!!!

It's on tonight. I didn't get to see it last week, so I'm going to watch the rerun.

Oh, this episode was a good one, and a very touching one. I have to say though, if they really did send Artist home, I wouldn't have bothered watching the show anymore at all. I'm so glad Teddy found a great home, I also hope the other 3 dogs found great homes as well!

Ditto!  If Artist had gone home, I'd have boycotted the rest of the season.  He's already the winner in my eyes, he's got the most heart of any of them.  They way he handed off to Jorge (sp?) was classy.  Notice Kathleen didn't do that when the guy seemed hesitant about her dog, she just pushed right on with the hard sell.  That's a sure way to get a dog returned to a shelter, pushing a hesitant adopter into making a decision on the spot!

I'd rather have Artist do a crappy cut on my dog for $100 than Kathleen do a superb job for $20.  He cares about the animals, is patient, and is humble and willing to learn and take constructive criticism graciously while keeping a happy upbeat attitude.  I'll take that over the Ice Princess snob who instantly muzzles a dog she has prejudices against any day!

i wanted to respond about the pulis. we get one into my kennel once every few months. the owners always request a bath. last time he was there we had to charge them 110 bucks for it. we spent probably a toal of 6 hours, spread out over 5 days seperating the coards. then i spent about an hour breaking up the matted ring on his neck. took an hour to wash. took 3 hours to dry. took another half hour to trim up and do a sanitary. its good commission but i cant say im glad when that dog comes in.

i also really liked this episode. its kind of hard to believe its the same show as it first was. i was so proud of artist. right when that old couple started talking i though, they would probably love gertrude, too bad jorge didnt find them first. when he gave them to jorge, that just showed that he thought the same thing and cared more about the dogs finding a home than the actual competition. i was bummed when it was down to him and kqathleen b/c they are my two favorites. i cant stand jonathon after his interveiw about how cocky kathleen is. maybe she is, and they just arent editing her that way, but he sure isnt one to be calling other people out on their arrogance.

I didn't like the way when asked by the vet why she didn't pick Artist's dog she said something like she would of been crying the whole time.  That's such BS--she clearly said when she was looking at the two that her competitive side was what told her to pass on him.  She said she was thinking something like if I want to win don't pick this dog.  Hey, you know what, fine but don't then change the story when asked.  Give me a break.

It makes me cry to groom dogs that are matted like that. Of course, I can't say anything for anybody else. I had to chuckle at Jonathan's reaction. He's never seen a dog like that? Really? And he's a groomer? I want to groom in Candyland!!

    • Gold Top Dog

There's nothing about Kathleen that I like. I wish she'd just go home....especially when she pushed her dog on that guy who was obviously unsure about the dog from the start.

I loved how Artist passed that couple onto a dog he knew would fit them better other than push his dog on them. It showed he really cared more about the dogs getting into a great home rather then winning the competition. He's a good groomer that cares about dogs and I wish he was around here to groom mine!

Oh and Jonathan, Mr. "I only groom rich people's dogs" give me a break! I can't believe his reaction about seeing poor Teddy so matted. I will say again that I am so happy Teddy found a great home!! and I hope the other 3 dogs did as well.

I like Kathleen's grooms, but her attitude has annoyed me from the start. Artist seems to have really grown through this experience. He's grown on me, for sure. A vegan, male, straight groomer? Send him this way, LOL.

I almost started bawling my eyes out when it was Artist that seemed to be going home. I would love to see him win but I think it will be Jonathon or Kathleen.

I cant wait till next Saturday. My friends and JJ laugh because I like these shows.

But guess what? Samantha loves to watch them with me so they can laugh all they want.
