    Groomer Has It

The episode I just watched was the one where they groomed the Chows. I am appauled at the way Kathleen handled her Chow! Not all chows are the same, the same way as not all pits are the same. I don't believe the show would have brought in an agressive dog. I think SHE should have been the one to leave the dog house! aaaagggg! It makes me so angry!

Darn I missed it. Its on here again at 11:00 so I can watch it then. Thanks for reminding me. I really like the show.

Yeah that was stupid putting that muzzle on that dog. He wasnt even acting up until she put it on him.

And I liked Will's haircut job he did on his chow. I thought it was cute but the judges did have a point about it looking like an eskimo dog.

I hope Artist or Jonathon wins. I'm leaning towards Artist because he seems like a fun happy guy but if he cant win then I want it to be Jonathon.

I have to constantly remind myself it's JUST entertainment. Jonathan is the only one who is halfway tolerable.  The rest drive me nuts!  Especially Malissa, I'm so glad she's gone now.  The vet is super annoying too.

I also really like Artist. I thought the job Will did was real cute too. But I also thought he looked a little eskimo.

I have it recorded and I'm going to watch and discuss with my groomer--she's watching just for the chows.  I have to say I'm very lucky that I found our groomer as pretty much ALL the rest around here would not take her if I called--even though she's very good for grooming.  So, I havent' seen it yet.  But, if Kathleen was around here and it was either muzzle or not have her done. . .I don't know what I'd do??

i'm so glad the blond airhead is gone.... "cats have 7 senses..."

and I hope jessie is next.... "ugly people do not deserve good things, even if they can groom!"

uh... ok  I think jonnathon is the only competent groomer on the show, as is jorge.

and I was appalled by the muzzle as well... I went to get CoCo's nails groom by the groomer she always gets it done...and mind you.... CoCo has not ONE mean bone in her body!  All I did was warned the groomer that "CoCo gets fidgetdy when her feet are touched.... and what did the groomer do?  Right away put a muzzle on her, even though I insisted that it wasnt needed."

I was pretty PO cause I thought it was so unneccessary as CoCo is such a ham.

Thats what I mean, People read WAY to much into little comments such as that one. They take "Becareful shes gets fidigity" and turn in to somthing like this..."I'm warning you! My dog attacks when people touch her feet" Rather what she should have done was take it slow. Give Coco a couple of breaks as not to stress her out to much.

People that THINK they under stand pets, but then really don't. I think I have a new pet peev (no pun intended)

Don't overreact too much on this.  I don't do any grooming, but I do technician work at the clinic I work at, and sometimes you have to try to read into the situation.  Sometime you'll ask people how their dog is with nails, shots, etc., and they say, "Oh, she's fine, no problem!" and then you're trying to do her nails or get a fecal and the dog is growling and snapping at your face.  Sometimes you HAVE to read into it in order to be safest.  You just never know...and some dogs don't even bother growling or giving a warning anymore because its been "punished" out of them and they go right to snapping and biting.  Just a few weeks ago, my friend had to take her dog in to get checked out (different clinic), and she TOLD them that he would need a muzzle because he hates his feet being messed with, and they totally ignored her and told her it would be fine, no big deal.  One of the technicians ended up getting her lip ripped off.  :(  I'm not saying you guys are wrong and that your dogs need muzzles, just saying that its sometimes hard to tell when people don't always tell you the truth, or just tell you vaguely what's going on.  It's not worth the risk in my opinion.  And what's the big deal with having a muzzle on for 5-10 minutes?  Yeah, I'm sure its probably stressful, but its better that the dog actually biting someone and having that big ordeal.

I thought waht Will did to his dog made it look cute, too. But Chows are not supposed to look cute tho. lol

I thought it made his dog look like a creme colored Akita.

I would've been annoyed too.  In many cases, adding a muzzle just makes things worse.Stick out tongue

Like Workingdoglover said, many times a pet owner will NOT tell the groomer that their dog is super NAUGHTY for a particular grooming task.  The owner knows about the behavior problem, but they won't admit it if they don't have to.  Then, when the groomer mentions it to the owner afterward, they say something along the lines of "oh, yeah, haha, she's never really liked that".  It's VERY frustrating sometimes.  So, if you are a considerate pet owner and mention (truthfully) that Coco's feet are ticklish, many groomers will think "Oh boy, here comes another really crazy hooligan".  They might think she is really rotten for nails because you mentioned that she has ticklish tootsies.  LOL, does that kind of make sense?

lol i mean... if it was the first time ive been there, then fine... i wouldnt have no problem at all...but i go there once every other week!!!  all the other groomers have NO problem grooming coco at all....and because this was the first time this girl was grooming her, i thought i'll mention she gets fidgety with her toosies to be nice and let her know.  I mean. the worst CoCo does is yank her paws back and I wanted to warn her she was fidgety so MY dog wouldnt be hurt if she yanked her paws back while the groomer was clipping down....

What boggled my mind was that they were to groom the dogs to breed standard, and not ONE of the dogs looked anything *like* a standard Chow. I thought it was pretty ridiculous to kick Will off for putting a cute pet trim on a cute pet dog, when they didn't kick him off for whacking a dog's vulva with a slicker brush....

Seriously, I yell during that show.

    • Gold Top Dog

I personally think the whole show is bogus...lol!  But its pretty entertaining at times, so I watch it when nothing else is on.  I haven't seen the latest episode with the chows, but I did see the cat one...whew...  I felt SO sorry for them.  I know how the cats are that are groomed at my clinic, and wow.  There are several that HAVE to be sedated or they'd take someone's face off!

I finally watched the episode with the chows and I was pretty upset watching.  First of all, the reactions right off was ridiculous.  A  chow is a gorgeous majestic animal and for some of them to be implying that they are just too good to groom a chow is just unreal.  If I was a groomer that would be one breed I'd want to master for sure.

I can understand being careful--but give the dog a chance first.  If I thought anyone where I take her was that afraid of her I'd request they not touch her.

As far as what Will did.  That would be unacceptable unless I asked specifically for her to be that short.  That will take quite a few months to grow back.  The fact that it looks cute or not is besides the point--there is a breed standard and that's what they were supposed to follow.  I have my request when I take my dog and that's what I expect to be done.
