BJW, I believe that you made the most kind decision for you dog. I know how hard it was for you to come to this decision, & I respect the fact that you put your dog#%92s wellbeing ahead of you own personal feelings. Keep your head up, you made the correct decision.
Zippie, I am going to make the assumption that you are just young, & naïve. I will assume this because if this is untrue, you are a truly heartless person who is just trying to "stir the pot." Anyone who has had a dog with hip dysplasia will tell you just how difficult managing HD is. In a very young dog, HD is even more difficult to manage. Yes, there are surgeries that can be performed in order to make the dog more comfortable. Unfortunately, while total hip replacements are very successful, there are questions as to how long they will hold up. Most surgeons prefer doing total hip replacements on dogs that are 5-6 years old, as they are confident that the replacement will last throughout the dog#%92s life. In a perfect world, dogs wouldn#%92t have hip dysplasia at all. Sadly, we don#%92t live in a perfect world. I am confident that the OP made the best decision for her dog.
