As you can see, everyone has a different opinion on this AND different dogs require different things as well. now if 'looks' are important your answer is going to be different than a dog groomed for health issues or a dog that's a companion but not a show piece.
There really are no 'wrong' answers -- you do what works and there is no 'wrong' unless the dog can't tolerate it.
I've had lots of dogs with skin problems so frequent bathing can be a MUST -- like daily at times! In those cases I make sure my rinse water has tea tree oil and/or lavender oil in it.
I don't ever use a dog 'conditioner' because typically they hold in dirt and they tend to be marketed more to the humans than good for the dogs. When I say tea tree oil or lavender oil I mean the essential oils -- literaly 25 drops in a couple of gallons of water. That does a great job of detangling too, and it prevents the skin from drying and it is great to prevent yeast/staph problems.
Oatmeal tends to stimulate the skin -- and you don't want to do that with skin problems, so I never use that. I'm mostly going to use something very gentle like diluted baby shampoo or sometimes a medicated shampoo like benzoyl peroxide (for staph or problems like demodex).
To a great degree bathing has a lot to do with training. if your dog hates a bath, try tossing treats in the tub before you start and rewarding good behavior. It doesn't have to be an earth-shattering experience.
Essentially don't bathe more than you need to. But that 'need' may be frequent or not frequent. depends on you and your dog.
