Billy's Newest Adventure - obstruction (*sigh* Callie)

    • Gold Top Dog

He'll be home tonight -- I gotta go get him before they close.

The tech said he obviously wasn't feeling good last night (altho enjoying the company and attention he was just staying on his blanket in "Feel Sorry For Me?" mode) but this morning when she got up she found him taking the grand tour of the house and looking for food.

He's gotta get just spoonfuls of food quite often for a while -- they don't want anything "stretching" the intestinal tract until it's healed.

However -- knowing that the liver values were really whacked on MONDAY and he had that thing in him a whole additional day, I'm asking that they get another blood panel done TODAY so we know exactly where the values may have gone up TO (I can't compare bloodwork in a a few weeks with Monday's and know for sure how much it has come DOWN unless I know where it went up *to* -- if that makes sense).  Am already talking to the holistic vet's office to have them find out what anti-toxin we may be able to do to help the liver out to return to normal a bit more.  There *are* things stronger than milk thistle and SAM-e and he's already on some good liver support, but we'll have to see what we can do.

Billy, Billy, Billy! Monies are for BUYING foods, not for eating!!!!

I'm so glad he's ok, Callie. They never stop suprising us, do they?

Callie, I've been thinking of Billy ALL DAY!!  How's he doing?  I'm assuming he's home now and recovering.

    Did you get bloodwork done?

Poor fellow...wish I could reach through the screen and give him a hug!!!  Hope all is going well...we all know he's in the bestest of hands with you!

Continued thoughts, prayers and healing vibes for him.

    HUGS (for you both)

Somehow I seem not to be able to post so here goes -- he's home.  He's feeling good.  He came home with Tramadol for pain and Metranydazole for the antibiotic.  he can't have normal food til Saturday.  So I'm still making babyfood stuff for him to make it easy on the gut.

I had them draw blood again so we can see where he actually is liver-wise.

I contacted my holsitic vet for some ideas on how to detox this.  SHE sent me to another holistic vet who specializes in "heavy-metal toxicity" -- So we have an appt up in Gainesville (not at the University but she's a private practitioner) Saturday morning.

This kind of trauma, and particularly with this toxicity, could easily cause him to rebound with IMHA so I'm trying to be really careful.

I will try to post tomorrow -- the past couple of days have been huge and honestly I"m exhausted.

Just now catching up on this.  Wow, so glad he came out of his little "lunch" episode OK.  You really are such a good mom:-)

I'm surprised you'd actually be willing to wait till Saturday!!  :)

Having to deal with this has gotta be nerve wracking!

Sending some calming vibes your way and healing vibes for Billy!  Get yourself some rest.  :)

Apparently big storm got in the way of the bloodwork -- the city where the lab is was shut down so almost no one got to work to DO it ...

I have little choice -- frankly I have missed a TON of work in the past few weeks -- for my dental appts, for this and other dog emergencies -- and I am SO slammed I can't see above the stacks on my desk (VERY true) -- I gotta keep the boss happy enough to keep the job to keep paying vet bills.  And that is true.

Essentially I told her exactly that (and almost exactly that way) -- she's letting me bring him to her HOME.  She'd usually do this on a consult basis but he's too complicated.  Her schedule is difficult as well -- but she also knows only too well that I'm right -- this could so easily trigger him right into IMHA, so hopefully this can prevent that.

How's he doing? I know you're swamped so I resisted asking til now... :)

Doing REALLY well -- and I was just about to post and update.

I got a call from Dr. B (regular vet) this morning -- the pathology came back from the little "spot" (that the holistic and the regular vets thot looked like a melanoma).  The tissue was NOTHING.  A bunch of $100 words, but essentially it was a little blood-fed weirdo NOTHING like a skin tag but NOT malignant and NOT even classed as a melanoma!!!

    RAH!!!!

The detox vet that he saw on Saturday called to check on him this morning -- I told her the only thing we've seen was he's slept DEEEEEEEEEPLY all weekend long (something my holistic vet sometimes calls the "body re-boot";) and she laughed and said that was pretty typical.

    I'm thrilled!! **Happy DANCE!!!**
