    Positive Thoughts and Vibes Needed for Tessy

    I'm hoping that it's nothing serious but Tessy has to go back in to the doctors again today for her eye.  It seems as if her mouth doesn't want to open as it usually does.  She doesn't even seem interested in her ball.....and that's unheard of with Tessy.  Perhaps the eye is in a little pain and it is affecting her jaw or mouth in some way.

    I'll let you know what the outcome is in a few hrs or so.

    Thanks

    Johnny & Tessy

    I'm glad you're going back -- esp since that other vet didn't check for dry eye and gave you an antibiotic that may be contraindicated by the IMHA treatment.  At least you'll get to ask.

    It could simply be severe joint inflammation in the jaw -- or some sort of related infection that's affecting the eye.  With this disease anything is possible.

    But the folks on here are SO good about prayers and good thots!!   Get better quick, Tessy!!

    Got some good news and bad news to share with you.

    Bad news.....The doctor now thinks that there is a reto-bulbar? abcess near her eye (behind maybe).  The only way to know for sure would be to do an exploratory surgery with a needle to see if fluid would drain.  You can probably guess what my answer to that was (for now anyway).  They want to treat her with antibiotics (cephalexin 500mg twice daily) to see if she improves.  I hope and pray this does the job.  I'm scared to death now.  Too many things running through my brain.

    Oh yeah...almost forgot the GOOD NEWS.  Since we were there I went ahead and had them do a CBC on her (instead of having it done next week)  Her HCT jumped from 34.7 to ....wait....38.9% !!!!!!!  You can't even begin to realize the happiness I felt when I heard this.  This is the highest it's been in 9 months!  She's been hovering between 31 & 35 for the past 3+ months.  All in all the CBC looked much better all around!!!

    I'll keep you informed on any changes.

    I hope the antibiotics take care of the abcess.  Poor Tessy, she doesn't need any more problems.  So happy to hear her blood count is up so high.  I don't post in the IMHA thread but I read it most days to see how everyone there is doing.  Get better, Tessy.  {{Hugs}}

    FWIW, I would of made the same decision you did, Johnny.  I definately would of wanted to see if it would clear with antibiotics first.  Glad Tessy is doing so well!!!

    How's the eye doing?

    • Gold Top Dog

    I think it's starting to improve slightly.  She started her antibiotics on Friday so I guess were only c couple days in.  I was told I wouldn't notice much change till 48-72 hrs in.  I've been applying a warm wet press on her eye a few times daily plus she gets medicated drops for it.  The third lid doesn't look as red as it was and I think she is able to open her jaw a bit more than the other day.

    Fingers will remain crossed.  Praying for positive things ahead.
