Runny poop and other questions

I'm so glad that you have her on treatment for the urinary problem - poor baby!  Give her some love for me and I agree that cutting back on food might help firm things up.

Others know better but especially since you are giving heavy anti-biotics I would give her a spoon of yogurt with live cultures - I think you need to do that a few hours after you give the anti-biotics but I can't remember exactly.  I know others will chime in.

And i hope the breeder agrees to help out a bit - she definitely knew about the lice so should pay for that treatment or split it.  Good luck

Hmm, I've never heard of the yogurt thing. I just gave her her third dose of her antibiotics, I'll ask my husband to pick up some yogurt tomorrow. So far her last two poops today were normal! I cut back her food as soon as it was suggested, so I'm hoping it stays normal now Smile

The diarrhea could be from her being sick with the UTI right now too.  I know when Willow was a bit younger-between 2-5 years-she got UTI's pretty often.  And, with not all but most of them also came bad poop.   She should start to feel better within a couple of days on the medication! I'm so glad she has you for a mom!

I'm not defending the breeder at all so please don't take this that way.  But, I've known people in real life whose very young females had UTI's too and even on this board the little chow pup also had one.  So, I don't think they are an uncommon thing for dogs that age.  And, they can be tricky to detect especially if they aren't severe enough that you see blood and/or you have a stoic dog.

Ah okay, ya I am not sure if its just 'everything' shes gone through, but thats what I was leaning towards. Her poop like I said above have been normal, so far today. I'm just not sure if its from cutting the food back or maybe the antibiotics helping already. Whatever it is I can't wait for her to feel completely better. And I'm still going to keep her food cut down to 1 1/4 cups a day instead of the 1 1/2 cups, just incase.

I hope I didn't sound too harsh about Lilith's breeder, I don't think she is a bad breeder or a bad person. I understand these things can happen for sure and to any breeder. I just wish she would have offered to at least pay some of the bills, because Lilith  wasn't 'healthy' as stated in the contract when I got her. And to only have her for a week and already be at $178 worth of vet bills, was pretty unexpected. But regardless, even if her breeder doesn't offer to help at all, I am not going to push for it. Lilith will feel better and thats all that really matters Smile

     glad she's doing better!

as for the yogurt make sure it is plain with active/live cultures

    • Silver
plain and unsweetened some of the plain still adds sugar. Nancy's is really good or any of the more natural brands.

Thanks everyone, I'm headed to the store now tp pick up the yogurt. Oh and I did hear from Lilith's breeder today, shes going to reimburse us $100 for the vet fees Smile

That's a very nice gesture, and I'm glad she's being understanding!
