Bailey went too soon....

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Bailey went too soon....

To read Bailey's story, and how she got to this point, look here....http://forum.dog.com/forums/t/83178.aspx

Bad news today.  We had to get one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met put to sleep.  She was filled up with a very agressive cancer.  We knew the news was grim this morning.  The radiologist called the doctor and said that it looked like a bad cancer, but there was no way to be completely sure.  At that point, we knew her chances were slim.  Even so, we elected to have a CT Scan done to be completely sure.  Before Bailey went back for her scan, me and my girl where both on the floor with her.  Bailey licked the tears from our faces before she went back with the doctor.  They called us 2 hours later, and confirmed that the cancer was so bad, there was nothing that could be done.  We drove to be with her, and then had her put down while she was still under the anesthesia from the CT Scan.  Here were two great pictures we took of her in the last few days.  Thank you everyone for all the thoughts and prayers....

I'm so sorry.  I only just read both threads.

Bless you for helping her though - if you had left her, who knows what pain she would have suffered before the end?  You did an extraordinarily good deed.  Run free Bailey, RIP.

I am so sorry, but thanks to your compassion Bailey's last days were filled with love.   She will run free of pain at the Bridge and will tell all new friends about the wonderful people she met on her way!

I'm sure Baileys running free with all the other pups and telling them all about the wonderful family she had even if it were only for a short time, those photos are the best way to remember Bailey, it shows how much you both truly loved and cared for one another.

    Run free Bailey, God Speed.....

I was so sorry to read this after seeing what you were willing to do for her.  But, the others are right - I'm so sure she will be bragging on you at the Bridge, and you will be the one she runs to when you get there someday a long time from now.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  The fact that she was given love and extraordinary care in her final days is a tribute to your caring.  She had the love of two kind people and a dog friend - for whatever brief time that may have been, those are the feelings she passed with over the Rainbow Bridge.

Our condolences to you.  Rest in peace, Bailey.

I'm so sorry for your loss! She was such a beautiful, little girl.

Cancer so sucks.  It doesn't respect age or need or love or anything else.

She will wait for you at The Bridge -- she'll wait proudly -- and with so much love.  And until then she'll play and play and run and have a blast.  And she's so proud of the family who loved her so much!

I am so sorry - shedding tears right now for your loss and for Bailey who was given way too little time on this earth.  Take solace in knowing you loved her and she knew it and loved you back - she obviously felt completely at home and comforted with you.  And you put her needs above your own - you gave her release before she had to suffer real pain and indignity.  It's never easy even if it is "right", but you made the loving and compassionate choice.

Be at peace and pain free sweet, beautiful Bailey.  Know that you were loved.

I'm so sorry it turned out this way. It's amazing how dogs can touch us so deeply in such a short time. At least she had your love and had someone to love her before she passed. What a sweetheart; she'll have lots of buddies to play with while she waits for you. Run free sweet Bailey.
