Boss joins the other great GSDs at the Bridge

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

Boss joins the other great GSDs at the Bridge

Today, I sent my GSD, Boss to the bridge.  His body had failed him, but his mind and heart were still strong.  However, he was ready to go.

Boss joins Jim's Tex and Minka; Denise's Harley; Lauri's Tessa and Remi, Nancy's Gunnar, Mary's Sadie, Glenda's Mr. Ears and all the other GSDs and non GSDs of i-dog waiting at the bridge.

    I love you Boss

Emily my sympathies go out to you. I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Boss. It is never easy, even though we know that is what is best for them. I'll be thinking of you.

So sorry to hear about Boss, I remember seeing previous pictures you had posted of him.  He is a beautiful dog.  I went through this about 1.5 years ago when I lost my Dal, it is never easy. I am sure my Reese was at the bridge waiting to greet your Boss

Emily I'm still so fresh from having lost Foxy the Mostlie Sheltie that I can tell you how I understand.  It IS different when they are old -- not less, not worse, just 'different'.  And when they are 'ok' with it then it means SO much.

I was just telling someone today 'missing' an older dog is different -- because I know what I've missed after Fox went over the Bridge was that closeness you get with an old dog, the comfort and familiarity.  But I couldn't have asked him to 'stay'.

I have a feeling there is a particular reception up at The Bridge for the old guys -- particularly those like Boss, and Foxy who know not just the pain they've escaped, but their undersanding of US and how they know WE feel now.  So I always figure there is a certain amount of reassurance that goes on "Emily will be fine Boss.  She's gonna miss you, but you know she'll be fine!"

*gentle hugs*  Today sucked and was hard.  But you did the ultimate loving thing.  Boss understood and if he and my herder aren't discussing us at this very moment I'd be surprised.

I'm so sorry Emily.  It's the ultimate gift you gave him and I know he appreciated it.  Lots of hugs to you, you're in my thoughts.

Emily, I am so sorry to hear this. I was hoping you would have some more time with that old man. Peace and stength to you.
    Godspeed Boss man.

I'm so sorry Emily. Run free, Boss.

Emily, I'm sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you. He was such a noble old man. Run free Boss!

I can't remember where I found this, but I think it fits.

You're giving me a special gift,
    So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
    Your courage makes me proud.
    But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
    And understanding earthly acts
    Will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes,
    Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic that will
    Once more make me whole.
    The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
    For it's the only way.
That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
    My partner till the end.
Please, understand just what this gift
    You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
    And all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
    For I believe it, too.
So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
    The courage that's within you,
    To grant me this appeal.
Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
    My pain and struggle done.
    And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
    Forever here, within your heart,
    And memory I'll stay.
I'll be there watching over you,
    Your ever-faithful friend,
... a young dog once again.

Oh, hon, I'm so sorry.  He'll be in fine company there.  Hugs to you.

    Run free big guy.

I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful dog I remember the picture you posted of him. I was just thinking of asking for you to post some pictures of your boys and boss a few weeks back.  Know that he enjoyed every moment of his life with you and he will be waiting to join you once again at the bridge. I'm sorry you had to see him in his final days like that, but you did the best thing for him.[:(]

Run free boss. Run free to the bridge you sweetheart.[sm=angel.gif]

    Emily,

My heart goes out to you and your family over the loss of your boy. He is in a much better place, happier, healthy and whole again awaiting you at the foot of the bridge one day.

Emily - I am sorry for your loss as I know you will miss that handsome boy keenly.  It seems as though you both were as ready as you can be, not to part from each other, but to let him leave behind a body he could not be comfortable in any longer.  I agree with what Callie said, it is different with an older dog when you know you have both come to terms and agreed on what must be.

Wishing you comfort in wonderful memories and peace for beautiful Boss.
