Rainbow Bridge Welcoming Committee (Updated Jan 29/07)

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

I can't fathom losing one of mine, but when it does happen it will sure make it easier knowing all of  those  handsome i-doggers will  be there to greet them. Looks great Sierra.

This is my family's kitty, Snickers.  She passed away this past Christmas from kidney failure, she was 14 years old.  She has been my mom's companion at home for the past seven years as us kids moved on and out.  My mom faithfully gave that cat medicine morning and night for 7 years when she was diagnosed with kidney failure.  She loved to chase ribbons and shoelaces.  Would play in boxes that my mom and dad would cut holes in for her.  She loved to sleep in the baskets my mom had around the house and even had her own in the sewing room.

The second is Maggie.  She was 1 year old when she was put to sleep.  Someday I will make that up to her.

I don't have any pics of my animals that have passed, I'm sure my mother does. But I just wanted to say that is a wonderful picture.

This is Pete who had to be put down July 17th,2 weeks after my 16th b-day. It is believed his leukemia came back,he fell and snapped a ligament in his hind leg. He was also extremly obese because my dad would cook him a burger like once a week that and the food he had probably didn't help him out much. He was 12/11. Territorial and would fight to the death to protect his family. He was more or less my mom's dog though. Whenever one of us was sick he'd be right there licking our hand, bugging us, wanting to know what was the matter.....

This is such a great thread. Thank you so much for doing this. It's so wonderful to see all of our pets from the past waiting at the bridge together.

The first picture is my first Norwegian Elkhound. Her name was Poppy and she was 6 when I was born. She helped raised me and was my best friend growing up. This is one of the last pictures of her. She was 16 1/2 when she died.

The dog on the left in the second picture is my next Norwegian Elkhound, Rocket (aka Viking Rocker the Invincible--AKC name). He was the world's sweetest boy. He died 2 1/2 years ago at the age of 12 1/2. He had severe arthritis and he couldn't walk at the end. I still miss him every day and cry when I think about him.

The dog on the right was Rambo the cattle dog. My mom adopted him from a shelter right before he was to be PTS. He was the most loyal dog I've ever met. He followed my mom everywhere and would jump straight up in the air instead of jumping on you. He had bone cancer and died at age 14.

I can't believe how the welcoming committee is growing.  Instead of feeling sad when I look @ your work a smile comes across my face.  It's so wonderful to see all our friends together & just imagine them romping around in the sunshine whole again & not suffering.  [:)]

That is such a gorgeous picture and such a wonderful idea.  I would vote for leaving that picture always as the first thing in the "Rainbow Bridge" section and just add to it periodically. It would really be a shame to have it disappear like an old thread.

Sierra, thank you so much for taking the time to go get Dancer's picture from the other forum and add it to the Rainbow Bridge Welcoming Committee.  Those of you who were asking about seeing a photo of her can see her on the top row, fourth from the left.  The black and white beauty.  That photo was taken in the grass behind our barn, one of her favorite spots, when she was in her teens.  It's nice to think of her still frolicking in the grass and stealing a horse poop or two...

So, if anyone wants to add a pet that has gone to the Rainbow Bridge to the photo below, just post a pic (preferrably a full body photo), along with a small bio, and he or she will be added to the photo below. I hope this makes sense.

I just saw this and can't get over how nice this idea is!  What a great picture you are making.  It blows me away to see everyone's pets waiting at the bridge.

I"m going to try to add 2.  Not sure if I have a digital of Max or not.  Max was an English Masiff who passed away at the age of 7.  He was a sweet boy.

Dudley was our rescue Saint Bernard who was Kato's best friend.  He passed away 2 years ago and is also sadly missed.[:(]
