Constructional Aggression Treatment (4iC)

Here are your quotes.  You put out such confusing information and then you back track on your statements.  I admit I am confused from your posting of the situation and its is apparent so are you.

"FWIW, both of the instructors I'm working with agree with me that pulling them out of class is the right thing, as long as I keep taking them to other public places with dogs (which I'm doing). "

"have rethought my decision and I'm going to take the dogs back and try the class again. I posted on a couple GSD boards asking for help and they ALL supported the idea of continuing the class."

Anyway, all this has nothing to do with CAT but there was enough information provided in this thread by members who actually wanted to help.  I hope this thread can be referenced by those that have a real dog aggression problem.

Here's another quote.  Who on earth doesn't know what dog aggression looks like.  Makes me wonder about whether there were any issues at all that you claim the Pushing Exercise cured.

"Well, when we got there and the instructor observed B'asia's interactions and body language with the other dogs, she was certain that B'asia was NOT at all aggressive".

Oh, DPU... I'm sorry, hon. Those quotes are from an entirely different thread!

That's right. So I wonder why you're complaining about it here? If you have a problem with what I've said in another thread, perhaps you should address it there.

I know what it looks like. Smile But there are many types of aggressive displays and it's important to know the REASON for the aggressive display so as to treat it properly. A dog displaying aggression because of fear should be handled differently than a dog displaying aggression because of the desire to protect something. I couldn't tell if a dog was displaying aggressive behavior out of fear, dominance, protection, territorial, possessiveness or predation. As I have said, I have never worked with an aggressive dog. I'm not a dog trainer or behaviorist.

The reason my trainer decided NOT to use CAT is because she thought B'asia's aggressive display was because of FEAR and not the desire to hurt anyone or anything. I'm sorry if you don't understand that or have a problem with it.

Wonder on. That's another thread, too. And I have already stated my results. Frankly, I don't care if you believe me or not. You're clearly trying to stir a pot that's empty. Confused

Oh, DPU... I'm sorry, hon. Those quotes are from an entirely different thread!

Don't you think they are related.  Lets see the players are the dogs, you, and the 2 trainers, a behavior diagnosis, a resolve, and obedience training.  Of course they are connected.

Listen here, so many of my fosters come to me with reputations and a bad rap record all because the original owner misdiagnoses the problem or represents the problem wrong to professionals.  I never rush to judgement but I give the dog time to confirm to me what if any there is problem.  There is such a big difference between aggression and bad doggie manners and it is just so obvious.  It does really make me wonder about the creditiability of your future postings and comments on how others should handle their individual problem.

And that has what to do with me or this thread?

If you have a subject you wish to explain or explore as regards the difference between aggression and bad manners, I suggest starting a new thread might be appropriate. Or go ahead and explain it here. I'm not sure what you want from me about it.

Your opinion of my credibility and comments does not concern me. If you have a problem with any advice I've been giving, or any comments I've made, I suggest you contact the site administrators and enter a complaint about me.

And, in this corner we have...

    Boxing anyone?

I think your whole experience of grasping at solutions is setting a poor example to others.  The best advise I can give you is take to time to observe what is actually happening with the dogs and then also take the time to plan a strategy and then stick to it.

    Wowza.

Four,  I think you do a great job observing your dogs and I think it's also great you are open minded and willing to try new things until you find something that feels right for you and your dogs.  I'm now bowing out of this thread, as interested in CAT as I was.... it's clear this thread is not going to be about that anymore.

Well, Four, one thing I have admired about you is that, in spite of our discussions here and there in various threads, you contacted a professional and worked with that person. Whatever the eventual dispensation of B'asia, you have done well, imo.

As for boxing, I would put my money on you, not because I'm trying to get on your good side but you just seem like the kind of person that has a mean left hook, when necessary. Though DPU does stay fit. It could be an even match. Big Smile
