Online Communities = Support vs. Enabling

    Chuffy

Admittedly some people like to think that "being nice" = "enabling", and use this (intentionally or not, I am not sure) as an excuse to be downright rude.

And now we are back full circle to the original point of the thread. That it is never EVER acceptable here on this forum...to be rude. If you are rude, expect action from a mod or Admin as per the rules here. Thank you Chuffy for bringing us all back.

Your personal style in life, when giving advice or counsel, does not matter here...what matters here is that you deliver both in a proper manner in line with the wishes of the co. that owns this site.

Joyce, you took the words right out of my mouth. Which means your brain must work at least somewhat like mine, so for that you should be terrified, lol. Stick out tongue

I partook of the heated pre-election debate threads, and I think, for the most part, people were able to have a good debate with very different points of view and keep it civil at the same time.  That's what made it fun!

Another example.  I was just making some collections calls.  Now, if I call someone who owes my company money, and I immediately start talking to them in a short, snappy tone, do you think I'm going to encourage anyone to actually pony up the money?  No!  And, also, I can't assume they're just trying to dodge their payment responsibilities...there could be a very legitimate reason why they haven't paid yet (ie-post office lost the invoice, etc).  So, you absolutely DO catch more flies with honey, and you cannot assume that you know every aspect of another person's situation.  Same principal applies here.  I'm one of those people that if you talk down to me, I'm going to take what you say with a grain of salt.  I think a lot of us are like that.

And, I'd just like to state FTR that while Ron may have hairy legs, should I ever find myself in need of some good ol' Texas justice, there's no question who I'm going to call upon. Wink

espencer, 2006?  Wow, you are really a glutton for punishment, aren't you?

    • Gold Top Dog

I dont even know why Chuffy thinks that when somebody comes to ask for advice i would say something close to "welcome to the forum, you are stupid, do what i say"

I can provide tons of threads to prove the contrary. I can be "non-easy" but that would be with people who come to post right after me to convice the OP to not follow my suggestion instead of actually give one and just let the OP decide what to do.

Sometimes i even think some of these "followers" dont even have dogs

In Jaimes defense, not that she needs it, she did NOT call me any names.  But, boy could I hear them anyway!  Nor, actually, did I call her any names.  Just terms of endurement.

I have a problem people, and you can either support or enable me.  I get these wild hairs and just HAVE to do really stupid things like spread 12 bags of mulch in the hot southern sun and plant annuals to make my garden pretty.  I did draw the line at finishing up the last little bit of weeding and putting ALL the mulch down until morning when the sun isn't taking the hide right off me......

Suggestions?  Support? How do I stop this lunatic behavior??

Off to shower and drink my V8 while you guys decide how to help me.....

    • Gold Top Dog

Terms of endearment...yes, yes they are...LOL!

I'm not going to supprt your whinning..if you've taken on the task do over do it in the hot sun well so be it...live it, learn it, love it :)

BTW, You didn't hear a thing....and if you think I'm going to enable your thoughts of mental unstability your dead wrong!

    • Gold Top Dog

I will support your decision Glenda to not do it in the hot sun, I think it's a sound thought out solution to your problem.

Wait, do you really even have gardens? I need picture proof.

I need support to start a conga line.......

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, I might have made the gardens up.  I'm thinking that when I get the last of the weeds taken out, the balance of the flowers planted, and the remainder of the mulch spread, then I will take pictures and beg someone to post them for me.  Of course, that would be enabling me to continue to be a techno dud.  That or supporting my inability to figure stuff out......

My apologies Jaime. That must have been my mental instability hearing voices again.
