See I like the way we download photos better. It's easier for me to do it from photobucket......
    • Gold Top Dog

Actually, having to upload from photobucket saved my butt when I uploaded a good amount of photos, and then my laptop hard drive took a dump......and I had not had the time to save all my pics to cds....

Oh I love photobucket, but posting pics from photobucket is nowhere near as easy here as it is on the other boards I post to. If the forum took up the entire browser window it would be fine, but my pictures have all been uploaded at a size that fits everywhere but here because this forum is just over half the width of the window, which I don't get.

Snownose, that's one of the benefits of an online photo album - even if you don't backup your picture files on your computer regularly, you can always get them back!

    Really!

How can it be easier to download pictures from your computer to photobucket..only to download them to this forum?

For me, to just go into my album where my pictures are and click on one to download on the forum is a lesser step.

Maybe there is something that I don't know here....Sad

Not sure what anyone means by "old" forum. I slipped away in early 2005 and keep poking my nose in. Lost my old oling so now I have a new one with only a handful of posts. Whatever,

Also I highly doubt that anyone cares about my opinion but FWIW I keep trying to come back and get frustrated by the style of the board. I like a clean simple bulletin board style. This one, well I have a hard time navigating and finding things so I get frustrated. I show up to see what's up with some of the OLD old regulars.

Anyway, have fun and carry on.

I think I've also made it pretty clear that I don't like the forum...too slow, etc etc.  I won't rehash, but everyone here has already mentioned my problems with the new setup.

i liked the old forum better as well.

granted. this forum has a lot of neat things: it like the look of it, from an aestetic point of view. and the photoalbum, video and block function are nice too.

the problem is, those functions arent really what this board is about in the first place. it is nice to have them nontheless, but the things that we really NEED arent there.

i still cannot make paragraphs most of the times when i hit "quick reply", which is a big problem (this is one of those "lucky posts). paragraphs mean i can structure a post and be easily understood. now when i post on a "fun"thread, i guess not having that option is ok. but when i am trying to give advice to a dog owner who has problems i think my posts are really hard to understand.

i also miss the old emotions, but again, that's no biggie for me. emotiotions arent essencial.

search function: i dont understand why they put it in in the first place. it is IMPOSSIBLE to find anything. why bother if you're not fixing it. it sucks, cause the same questions get asked over and over again and with less member being active a lot of them get tired of answering the same questions multiple times. i know i do. it also means having all the old posts from lets say a month ago stored somewhere is just a waste of space. we cant really use them anyways.

also, because there are less people posting now, many threads go unanswered for much longer. part of the reason i came here really WAS the AMOUNT of people posting. yes, you could say quality over quantity. but more posts means more insiteful posts. yes, there are those that i dunno what to do with. but getting more replies on a question mostly also means i get more info.

the email notifications. yeah, i miss them too. why the hell is it SO HARD to make it useful and easy to understand? i had to download a feed reader and between that and checking the "my discussions" section i have it covered now. but that, in my opinion is a lot of efford to have to go through and it should be this hard.

    same goes for posting pictures...

i think the overall problem is that in addition to some bugs, the functions that we have here are just not intuitive. for most functions we have there IS a way to achieve what we want, but it is hard to find out how and really complicated. yes, as many have said before, this is free. but why change in the first place, if you didnt care about making a better forum? and that is the feeling i get. besides VERY few issues, nothing else got taken care of or fixed, until now - six months later!!!!

the differences are small, but they have a huge effect. to make a comparison:

most functions that the iphone has arent new. like browsing the web and using wireless to do so, etc, etc. however it is SO much easier to use, because all functions are intuitive. you dont need to read a manual on how to go online. and you dont need to go through 4-5 steps to do so either. you dont have to painfully scroll through a website, etc etc etc. small things, but they make a difference, because it means people USE the features. i can go online to any website i want with my phone, but i never do. why? cause its a pain! and the same goes for the forum. i came on here, cause it was fun. browsing the posts really was fun before. now, i stay because of the people, NOT because of the forum. (and of course because i'm a dog-freak.... Wink)

i wish our complaints were taken just a bit more seriously, really. i wont leave if they're not. but it peeves me nontheless....

I want you ALL to know that your complaints ARE being heard.  I have spoken extensively about all of these problems with the higher ups and steps are being taken to fix these things, but it will take some time.

It doesn't give us any pleasure to disappoint you guys, you make this community what it is, it wouldn't exist without you and we know that.  If any of you would like to discuss any concerns about the forum privately, please feel free to email or PM me.

Now you know why I never post photos... I want to browse and dump them right on here, too.   I also hate the procedure for adding links.  I find the whole forum pretty cumbersome, and if I never saw another tag it would be too soon.

Because you don't download them to the forum, you just cut and paste the photobucket link. I also think the new way is much easier ;)

Ya know, there's better forum software available ;) Might be easier to convert than to try to fix this. I'm not sure that this software was originally intended for this type of use.

How can it be easier to download pictures from your computer to photobucket..only to download them to this forum?

    This might be one reason:

When you download a picture from your computer to the forum, you actually make a copy of the picture on your computer and store it here on the forum, taking up disc space (which actually costs money). If you deleted the picture on your computer, the copy would still be stored here on the forum.

When you put your picture on photobucket (for example) the forum just POINTS to that picture on photobucket and it LOOKS like it's "stored" here on the forum, but it's not. If you deleted the picture in photopucket, it would disappear from the forum, because the pointer is now pointing at nothing.

With a board that normally has a lots of pictures, it can really start to take up space. Many boards that DO allow you to upload have a limit per post or an overall limit and you have to delete photos to add more. Just my take on this.

For those who are having trouble posting pictures, it's really not hard. If you can create a dog.com account and join a board and log on, you can create a photobucket account and upload all the pictures you want. Smile All you have to do is get rid of that notion that it's too hard or complicated. I will help ANYONE who wants it.

There are directions in the FAQ and if those don't serve you, I made these instructions for people who know nothing about computers. PM me and I will help. Smile

I just posted my 101 picture on Photobucket and Photobucket deleted it.  They must also have limit as to how many pictures you can store there.  So now in order to post new pictures, I have to delete and thus break the picutre links of old posting

I have 365 pictures and counting on my photobucket account, so it may just have been an upload error.
