Just how much space should one poster take up?

The forums vibe in a given section or as a whole, is not just a mod/Admin concern...it's up to ALL here to do their part. Hopefully that is actually what you meant with your post...rather than singling out individuals.

We've all here, posted things we wish we hadn't, or used a tone we wished we hadn't...and rather than pointing out when things are getting dicey and making it seem a huge impending disaster that needs to be addressed, one can simply inject positivity into threads and try to spread that vibe, instead.

Some posters have unfathomable time and energy to spend in dominating the mood and content of a board. They exhaust others' good natures, in cycles. I've seen (first hand) forums jump through hoops with rigid rules to try to thwart such problems, rather than simply deal with them directly.

If the forum makes space for such such problems, they will arise. It is my opinion that it is a forum administration matter, not a member matter.
 

I think we've seen on THIS forum how poorly over regulating the forum actually works.

I think that ALL members have a responsibility to "turn the other check" and try to post positively.  I agree with Gina on this one.

However, feel free to address your concerns to Admin directly.

I don't doubt that at all, esp the first hand part. But IMO the forum is, (borrowing from Jaime here) what members make it...not what anyone dictates it to be.

I had one that covered half my ceiling when I was a teenager.  I think that is an acceptable amount of space.  If its blocking the light from you window, its too big.

I disagree quite a bit with the tone of certain posters, but I look for content rather than intent and all is well with the world. If one seeks only to see intent, then content is lost completely. 

I would much rather see an underregulated forum with responsible members than to be part of a rigid forum with goosestepping members that are afraid of the free exchange of ideas.   

I think people just take their opinions and bring everything to the ultimate extreme.  I don't see much in the way of open mindedness at all.  As soon as someone learns something here all of a sudden they are the expert on whatever subject that was.

IMO, there is a returning spirit of smug "I'm rightism" and questionable "expertism" creeping back into the section, the likes of which we haven't seen since last spring.

Hmmm.. Ok so I haven’t posted here much lately, nor have I had “unfathomable time” to play on Idog… but I must admit that even writing this thread seems to be creating a “us versus them” attitude. A separation of individuals on this board rather than a family or “community” environment. I think people should perhaps look at the separation or potential problems they can create when starting such threads in a public manner, versus bringing up concerns to admin/ moderation in a more private manner.

Just my two cents, which probably ain’t worth much!

 I remember in the not so distant past when red ink was the norm in behavior, not the exception, I'm sure you remember it too!
 

Yeah, that's a funny thing. I *heard* about a lot of red ink that I never saw. Perception is a slippery bugger.
