I guess I'll weigh in here....

There are plenty of other forums out there available to anyone on the net. There are two that I know of that were started off of this forum by previous members of this forum. I am a member of one of those and also visit the other regularly although not a member I like to read some of the conversations.

As with what has happened in the past, forums tend to "cycle". I've seen it a few times since we've purchased this domain. Generally some people will go and not return but there are times when they just need a break from what is happening here and return at some point. Mostly these things happen from differnce of opinion or heavy handed unfair moderating. Of course some of that moderating is needed and it is actually a relief that they have moved on.

Spamming is an issue when it comes to THIS forum. When PM's are sent to masses of members and it is unwanted it is considered SPAM. That is where I will step in and notify the person that the behavior needs to stop when it is brought to my attention. I have had the pleasure to notify a member prior to the new format.

Now we've also seen where *new* members who own their own forums come along and post in a SPAMish way trying to get traffic to their site and members. Those types of posts should be removed and that member gets a nice little e-mail letting them know that continued behavior will result in suspension up to and including termination...generally that is enough, if not- Buh bye!

So in the end, if you want to talk about other forums please do so with respect of the members here who are enjoying this forum and want to continue to make it better. What happens on other forums is just that...what happens there. It doesn't and shouldn't play into this forum or the members here. If I do see that behaviors toward members here are being expressed because of what they may have said on another forum then we will be talking privately, as I said, what happens there stays there, don't bring it here or you will be the one in the hot seat.

Any questions, feel free to contact me

I'm a member on quite a few boards. This is the only one I post in on a regular basis, although I do read through other boards for various reasons. Mostly I compare the posts of folks who are having problems with their dogs, which philosophies and methods they are using, what's working, what's not, etc...I also compare "other" things in a research sense.

Dog boards are a wonderful source for studying case histories. I've followed the progress (or lack there-of) of some  dogs and their owners for years. Pretty interesting stuff!

As far as participating goes, there's something for everyone out there. Some folks get off on high emotion and drama, some just want a place to chat and banter with their online pals, some want to only be around others who believe what they believe, and some are looking for an open exchange of information in a more logical and analitical manner with a sense of discovery with a mix of folks they may not always agree with, but respect.

I've had quite a few folks PM me and ask about other boards. If I know of a board which will contain information I think will be of interest to the person asking, I will pass that info on. However, actively recruiting people from another board via PM, and then bragging about it on an open forum for all to see (which, c'mon, that is the point, isn't it?)...Ew.

Does this board need bad publicity like that, considering a business is the backbone of this board? One would wonder if the business might be a part of the bad publicity......imo,people should be able to roam to wherever they want, but creating a bashfest is something totally different.

Could you pm me a link to this "bashfest."  I can't seem to find it for the life of me, & I'd really like to see it.

I agree that people shouldn't bash any forums, but I really haven't seen that done.  I'm curious about where it happened & what was said.
