Problems with new format...

 I use Firefox and if this message goes through Firefox works. This is my first post on the new format.

My problem - it looks like embedded links do not link externally.  I can't stand when forums do this!  You want people to remain on your site!  Links should open in new tabs or windows, especially on forums b/c usually people are reading what's at the link and reading responses or typing a response at the same time.  That's my main gripe.  

Also, maybe I'm blind but is there no Reply button at the top of a thread?  Does it require you to always reply to a specific post?

I don't like that either.

I also don't like that the quick reply and report a post are right beside each other and the same color. I almost reported  Liesje post instead of replying to it. I know careless on my part, but I can see how one could accidentally report a post.

I'm using Firefox on a Mac and haven't run into any bugs yet...

I am using the back button CONSTANTLY... is there an easier way to navigate this mess?

It's been what 2 days? lol...

The link thing...Im not getting it. I've posted a couple links and they are links...they take you AWAY from your post...is that what you mean? In that case I use my mouse and hit "open in new tab/window".....am I missing something about the link issue? I will go back and re read...puter terminology isn't a strong suit of mine.

 I think they mean that when you click on the link, the new link opens in the same window that the thread was in, so then you have to use the back button to get back, instead of just going back to the open window... if that makes sense.

 
So far I'm not thrilled with this new format.  I miss my pop up reply box instead of the same window bit.  And the navigation things at the bottom of threads, I used those ALL the time!!!!

And for those of us that had it bookmarked, I didn't find it again until today!
 

 Yeah, I do not like this at all.  It isn't user friendly, it's hard on the eyes, etc.  The change apparently got ride of our sigs and avatars and I'm going to have to have DH sit down with me tonight and tell me how to fix all this.  I'm not sure what was so wrong with the other format that they had to change it to this.

Might not have been anything "wrong" with the old place to cause a change, dog.com is a business first...perhaps this company gave them a better deal money-wise on running the forum.

It does cost to run this place...and probably not just a little. Might be more reliable or easier for the Admins to control...who knows what goes on behind the scenes?

Just some random thoughts on the subject.

Nah I didn't do feedback yet b/c it's so new and I can't tell if I'm missing something I should be seeing (happens a lot!).

What I meant by the link is that if you click a link within a post, it loads within the same/tab window.  For most people it doesn't matter, but as a web designer by trade I ABHOR "external" links (links to anything other than within forum.dog.com) not loading externally.  Bad design and marketing, IMO, but it's really a matter of personal preference.

I don't really like the new layout at all, but it's a dog.com decision and of course I'm sticking around!  I don't really like change in general.  I really loved the style of the old forum so much, I've all but stopped posting at the other forums I visit b/c I got used to dog.com.

I am impressed with the import of all the users, posts, sigs, profile information, etc, etc.  I have my own forums I'm too afraid to attempt to update!
 

One thing that bugs me is the list of threads only shows who posted last, not who started the thread. 

I'm not terribly impressed with the interface.  But I guess it might grow on me... ;)
