Good bye

    • Gold Top Dog
Contained in the initial post was a link to a blog that was quite unpleasant itself.  Therefore, some of the unpleasant responses might have been expected.

Thank you Sara...this more than anything else...made me lament this entire situation.

And the underlying fact is this: The link in question, that caused all this, takes you a page soliciting funds for privately owned pets. That hasn't ever been okay...not since I have been here. I am not sure why the request to remove it...should have been such a surprising thing.

Ok, here's the thing, and this IS in reference to this thread.

Contained in the initial post was a link to a blog that was quite unpleasant itself.  Therefore, some of the unpleasant responses might have been expected.

This wasn't a sweet goodbye thread.  It was a "go sc**w yourselves" thread, which the OP is certainly entitled to, as is anyone here.  As I have said before, everyone here is entitled to express his or her opinion.  I just don't think that he or she expressing the opinion should be suprised or dismayed when someone responds in kind.

To her credit, I think Jeano said her piece and left it at that.

Again, I agree with what you're saying. Leaving the link leaves it open, on a public forum, to nasty responses.

However, those who didn't want to say good-bye or those who didn't care to keep in touch, didn't need to read it. The thread OR the blog. She didn't say in her initial post that she had left a more detailed description of why she was leaving in her blog. She only left that link as a means to keep in touch or for those who wanted to continue reading it. She didn't post that blog here, on idog. That was her own personal blog.

I'm not saying that I agree with the tone of blog, but hey, it's not my blog. Those aren't my feelings. I have no idea what she's referring too, and I don't care, and maybe that's the problem. Maybe that's why I fail to see why her blog condones members leaving such rude remarks on her good-bye thread. Anything that needs to be said to Jean in that fashion should be done so personally, IMO.

That's the way I see it.  As ye sow, so shall ye reap.

Amen.  I assume those crying "poor Jean" haven't read the blog in question.  The blog, once again, to which she posted a link in HER goodbye thread.

To her credit, I think Jeano said her piece and left it at that.

I believe I will wait to pass credit until we determine whether she is one of the 92.3% of people who say goodbye then never leave.  [;)]

I read it. I just don't know, or care to know, anymore about what she's talking about. I don't know what members she's referring too. I don't care to know. Whatever happened, happened on a personal level. It's none of my business. She didn't name names.

Also, I don't know Jean personally. I have never had a private or personal conversation with her. She probably doesn't even know who I am, even as a member. That doesn't mean that I didn't gain insight or knowledge from her posts and consider it unfortunate to see her go.

Actually ashland...I found the blog link to be an invitation...to read what she'd written and apparently very recently too. I'd never read her blog before I saw the link...and my first ever click was to read that.

I want to take the opportunity to express my neutrality here, although it appears that isn't coming through very well in my posts.

I can see both sides of this issue.

In Jean, we have a member with deep roots who is clearly disgusted with something that went on, and is very capably expressing that disgust.  She has offered me helpful information in the short time that I've been here and I deeply appreciate it.  I have enjoyed the story of Ole and I love to see the pics she posts, as I am fascinated with life in Alaska.

However, and it is because I have been a reader of her blog previously that I feel qualified to make this comment, we ALSO have in Jean a sensitive, thoughtful woman who may be in the ironic position of committing a bit of an overreaction based precisely on her deep roots in this community.

When you post ANY thread publically, you open yourself up to ANY AND ALL public comments, whether you like them or not.  Jean, of all people, would know this.

I agree.  I always liked Jean and considered her quite knowledgeable, the "nazi/troll" comment, to a friend of mine, notwithstanding.  But why take a shot at ANYONE when you're leaving.  Why not just leave?  Or suffer the consequences?

I can see how it may very well have been an invitation. One that she had left on her sig for a long time. I had my blog link on my sig up until today as well. Whatever her reason for leaving it, it was really no different, imo, than how she normally left it for us all to read all the other times. The only reason I went and read it today (and I have read her blog in the past) was because of what your post said about it. [;)] I was curious after that. And I completely agree with what you wrote after having read it. That you weren't upset, but surprised and that maybe a break was a good idea.

I agree with Billy too....Oh no, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little...[sm=vomit03.gif][;)]Just trying to lighten the thread...

No need to explain.  Any reasonable person thought your comment was funny.  Certainly, I did.

    Jean is a grown..adult woman.
I understand her being tired of it and wanting to leave...I understand what she did was make a choice to leave, for however long.

I do not understand the blog posting...nor will I likely...ever. It makes me feel that what I say to her here, could end up in another entry at some other time. That's okay...after all this forum is public...but I also have choices..and I may chose to limit what I say, speaking of member to member convo's...to some people based on that fact. That is my choice to make.

I think Jean's made many wonderful contributions to this forum...but I also think that saying "the forum sucks now because xx left", or 'the forum is going downhill', or 'this forum used to be better when.." ...is just as demeaning to our other members...and to future members BOTH.

I agree. Very much so, in fact.

For me though, my only issue with this thread was the way it seemed some just got nasty with their comments. My initial shock came at some comments made even before everyone started reading her blog.

IMO, although she left the link, she said what she had to say on her blog, not on i-dog. It makes a difference to me. Like I said before, I don't really appreciate the tone of her blog, but hey, those are her feelings. She said them on a place other than here.

Well, things are a little tense around here today.....never know what may happen.  I thought it was pretty funny myself, thank you very much (pats herself on the back).

well... not to be picky... but not exactly:

I won't close my account, but I'm not coming back for at least a couple months, possibly longer, possibly never. I'm disgusted with the latest round of rules, I'm disgusted with the toxic person who is playing games with the forum members and mods and who harassed me.

I've been a very friendly and productive member of this forum for years. I guess no good deed goes unpunished.

Sylvia...we can agree...I am grateful the comments were not left here!
