Good bye

Yeah, I'm really not thinking that mocking Jean is really adding anything positive to this either...Sheesh...[8|]

I'm not quite sure how I got to this thread today, but I would like to add a small contribution. Almost every message board I've ever participated in has had people who end up lashing out at each other. My personal opinion is that the problem is not just with message boards--it's also with jobs and clubs and assorted other situations where people interact closely without really knowing each other well--misunderstandings arise and people jump to often-unfounded conclusions. The only way I know to break vicious cycles like these is to adopt a strict code of non-participation in negative comments and to do whatever is necessary to remove the people who propagate them. There are people in the world who always think the worst about other people and those of us who have to be around them cannot change them. As my husband says, "You cannot push a rope."

You know, I find some of the responses here to be unbelievably mean-spirited.  Are you honestly making fun of a member who is obviously hurt/angry/frustrated - maybe overwhelmed?  And I might add, a very long term member, who over the years has contributed greatly to the forum.  I don't know what led up to all of this, (thank God), it appears that it is mostly off-list correspondence and I think that's where it should stay.  All I know of  Jean is her dog-related posts that I've read and appreciated over the years.  Regardless of a person's reason for leaving, they have a right to post a Goodbye thread if they want to without being mocked and literally taunted in a separate thread.   Maybe most people who say they are leaving never do, but there have been quite a few people who have permanently left this forum or at least have stopped posting ... really, really knowledgeable, informative, supportive people who's expertise is still missed, and the forum is a less useful place because of their absence.  Thankfully, many of them posted a goodbye thread and gave contact info so that their knowledge-base is still accessible.  Fortunately a few of them came back eventually...but I wonder if that would have been the case if they had been made fun of when they left. Applause to both of your posts Kelly (Sooner).   Jean, good luck to you and I hope you return.

On the off-chance that anyone thinks I was directing my opinions to any particular person, I am definitely not. In fact, I have no idea what the issues are or who is involved. I agree with minimom in that people need to be able to express that they've been hurt and to explain why they have left. Sometimes that's all you can do---to exit as gracefully as possible.

Help, help--I didn't mean for the dove to be so big! I'll upload a smaller one, if someone can tell me how to delete the giant one that's already there!!

..... outside of dogs, do we really need to be that much involved in others personal affairs?

Probably not ... except when people post personal incidents and ask for input, that sort of gets everyone involved.  It's like our own little internet version of [sm=jerry.gif] except that we can't see each other dancing around in our underwear.

I completely agree and it's a little disturbing how there seems to be almost a pack-mentality when these threads go downhill.  I just don't get it. [8|]

By the way, Lips, I like your big dove.

I don't get it either. I was actually quite shocked, and somewhat disappointed, when I read some of the responses on this thread. I know I've missed the whole backstory to this, but regardless, we've just lost a very valuable member and I don't think pouring any more salt on the wound is neccessary.

Well, the big dove IS dramatic. By the way, I kind of like Lips, even though it's really supposed to be LLPS--But that's OK. It makes me seem more witty than I really am.
