What is WRONG with this Picture?

based on reading this story, i am going to post something on self-defence against dogs like this - not that it may help much when 2 dogs are coming atcha.

I just saw the story on Fox news. Horrible. They ripped the little dog apart and went after the lady. She is lucky she got away alive. Crawled to her car. Dog doors can let any animals in. Very sad for that poor little dog. Just horrible.

Wow that is the type of story I HATE hearing.  Very sad...for all involved!
 
That is why I HATE I-fences and doggie doors...you can't control what is coming in!!

I have a doggy door, but  before another animal could come through it that animal would have to find his/her way through a pretty secure fence. How did the dogs get into the womans yard in the first place?

She said it was a neighbor's dog who has tried to go after her service dog before.  Didn't look like she had a fence and one of the pits broke through his fence.  We don't have a fence either and if I was every out on our porch with Kenya, I'm sure a truly aggressive dog would have no problem coming through the screens.  Scary!

It said in the article I read they were both human, animal and dog aggressive. Yeah, super friendly dogs.
 
When a dog bites every owner always says "they were the nicest dogs"
 
I think people say that so they wont be held accountable. If you say "yeah i trained this dog to be mean" that holds you responsible.
 
And I guarentee you there were warning signs if not just total aggressive behavior.
 
I wish idiots were not allowed to own dogs.
 
 

Those that that use to live catty corner to the one corner of our yard dug under the fence into the yard behind us.  She barely got her foster dogs into a chain linked fence area that was covered in cement.  The animal control wouldn't even attempt to get those pits out from under her shed and she had to wait til owners came home and got them.  Both Linda dn neighbor next door, whose yard is back to back with the  yard the pits belonged to were convinced those dogs were being trained for fighting and one called the law and reported it and people and dogs were gone two days later.  Meanwhile Linda had cement poured along the fence (we all have 6 foot privacy wood fences) like a sidewalk down that fence so the dogs couldn't dig back under.  Because they believe the dogs wre being trained for fighting they were terrified for their own dogs, plus Linda had several fosters.  i wasn't as scared because I knew that in order to gt into my yard they had to get into one of the other two yards first, and until they got into Linda's, i didn't really think they would ever dig under.
 
And some folks rent and the landlords do not want to put fences up.  The few times we rented a fecne was one of our main requirments, a good fence.

a fence can be gotten through by almost any determined animal. remember the story about two pits jumping over a fence to attack the chow that was attacking a woman?

there were several eyebrow scrunching moments in this story...
they attacked her while she was in bed?[sm=huh.gif]
another dog came into her house while these dogs were locked in? [sm=huh.gif]
she got a gun to kill them but didnt or couldnt? did she even manage to get a
 shot in or was she worried about staining her carpet? [sm=huh.gif]
why did the fire department show up? cats stuck in trees.... ok... pit bulls trapped in your house?? [sm=asking03.gif]
and when the police arrived... ok i can see why a bunch of strangers in uniforms couldnt get the dogs out without a battle... but why didnt they call the owner of the dog? surely HE could get control over them!

it sounds like the dogs were also put under a ton of stress which made matters worse. yes they did attack a sleeping person which was beyond strange and unusual for dog psychology... but it made matters worse to involve guns, firemen, and police officers...

i HOPE there will be a thorough investigation to make sure the owners of the pits never own another dog. can you imagine the mental stress this woman has had to go through?
and add to it... a JRT got killed! where it's owners and why was it loose? was this a routine perhaps? did she know the dog and welcomed it into her home, was she dog sitting?

My questions go beyond all those:
 
1.  Most any handicapped person I know (including me) are more than a little anal about someone just being able to waltz in the house.  If the service dog was 'pup up' WHY WHY WHY was the dog door not locked?? I mean, that's a walking invitation to get robbed if all someone's gotta do is shimmy in your dog door?
 
2.  I don't get the whole "she was in bed" thing - -- I mean -- what drew these dogs INSIDE her house?? That just plain doesn't make sense -- dogs might go inside for food -- if the smell was strong enough -- but to track a woman into her bedroom??  huh??
 
A dog just does NOT say "Hmm, I'll try a little breaking and entering ... I'm bored!"
 
3.  IF she was handicapped and in bed -- why was her dog shut up??? THAT truly doesn't make any sense -- if it was a service dog then howcome it wasn't with her??
 
4.  Something tells me this lady's house was the neighborhood doggie hangout for food place -- go see Mrs. X and she's good for a free meal ANY time!!  Otherwise what would have possessed this little JRT to go 'visit'.  PARTICULARLY if there were two pits inside already? 
 
5.  She's got a gun, her service dog was locked up but the doggie door was OPEN????? C'mon -- this just isn't at all sensible.  She's got a gun, was complacent enough to leave the doggie door open, and yet she couldn't fire/kill these two dogs???
 
This story stinks like 7 day old fish.  Something just isn't right about it - more to it somehow.
 
I'm not saying there wasn't plenty of blame to go around, I'm just saying the whole story isn't known because it does NOT make sense.

Just to get the facts straighter. She was French, not English. She was not sleeping but had passed out on the floor after taking heavy medication. While it is agreed that the dog did the damage (yes, it was extensive), it is not clear whether the dog "attacked" her or if he pawed and gnawed on her in an attempt to "wake her up". The dog, a Lab, was euthanized.

I agree. These are the stories that I hate. Clearly, something else was going on here, or someone did not feel like sharing the whole story. 3 dogs just HAPPEN to walz into your house at the same time? I really do not think so.
These are the types of stories that are putting a bad rap on the pit bulls.
