Kentucky, Akitas needing evaluation for Rescue

Megan (Ridgeback) would be the closest. It would be a small trip for both Kim and I.

I have never done any kind of evalution of a dog and would be hesitant to make that kind of decision since I do not know the breed that well.

There are many rescue people on the german shepherd boards who work with Kentucky shelters, maybe someone can cross post to see if they would be willing to lend a hand? It's really the only other board I go to. Let me know if you want the address.

P.S. I found this http://www.hodakitas.org/ they say they work in southeast Kentucky so this may be a bit out of their way, but it's worth a shot.

Not sure that Heart of Dixie is still active. This is MARS situation so I don't want to step on toes and I'd wager the other group already knows about it. Would you possibly cross post to your GSD board/list what I typed up there?

 I know nothing about Akitas so I wouldnt be of any help. But when I go to class tomorrow I will tell the others there and maybe someone will be able to help.

I've only actually been around one akita before, he was one of the sweetest most outgoing dogs i've ever met- which i've heard isn't typical. Paris is only about 30 minutes from me, i would be willing to go check them out. Would i basically just make sure they're not aggressive/shy,etc? I'll shoot them an email later.

Megan...ANYTHING you could tell them about the group would be so helpful. Basically they want to be sure there aren't any noted or noticed (by the shelter) health issues or temperament issues aside from perhaps dog or small animal aggression (which is somewhat expected in the breed). If you email them let them know I sent you and that I got the info from Sarah at the Akita forum okay?

 I sent them an email, they said the last time they talked to the shelter the roads were flooded and there was no way to get there. They said they'd give them another call today and they'd get in touch with me.

flooded? how scary! I had no idea...need to watch the news. Is your area okay at least? You said you were only 30mins from?

Oh my word, you have no idea. I do know that there are no casualty's in human terms from the flash flooding, but it did cause some serious issues. Will post some video's for your viewing pleasure in another thread.
