... That a bullet to the head, a hanging with a noose, being left in the desert with a muzzle on to starve to death and having their ears cut off first so that they cant be traced by their racing tats would be postponed a little longer if they just ran faster. And btw, those things still happen in the good old U.S. of A…and not just in other countries...

In case some might think that the above are exaggerations, I assure you they are not.

As previously stated, I have been involved with greys for over 15 years. At first I was

So that is the norm and what happens to the vast majority of track bred Greyhounds?

No, but is has happened and still does. There is a kill truck that still leaves once a week from a track in the Florida Panhandle.

Rescue programs have made great strides in reducing the number of greys that are put down. These are people who spend their own money and time to clean up the mess left by those who profit from racing. Fair? I think not.

You are very generous calling it a "sport". What I gather from this thread is that it is a money making industry in which the tools can and are being used and discarded without much regard to life or well-being.

My main opinion is that the dog's welfare needs to come first. I wish we could prevent the mass killing of these dogs. That's my main problem.... these dogs are almost all adoptable why can't all breeders be held accountable for what they produce? I know numbers of killed greyhounds have gone down a lot but still... I wish we could find a way that would help place all of them possible.

My two cents.....The idea of and philosophy of racing dogs is fine. The modern *industry* of racing dogs is *despicable* Angry

I just want to thank all for posting their thoughts. It's important that the facts are presented.

That said, I suspect that we all have value judgments. It is important to have such.
