Mayor's dogs killed by police

I saw that on the news last night and then read it on the comcast home page this a.m.  Really - why can't the police be held more accountable for this kind of stuff?  Is it too much to expect them to know whose house they're barging into with weapons drawn? And they didn't believe he was the mayor even after he told them.  Come on!  If you're on the police force, shouldn't you know who your mayor is and recognize him when you see him?  Geez. They didn't even apoligize for the dogs.  Apparently they just shot them as they were running away because they felt "threatened" - by a couple of labs who were scared and running away.  Riiight.

Amen!  And, for crying out loud - how about a *little* investigative work on this, people?!?!  To leave the dead dogs there for hours while the interrogated, etc... I am quite sure that others have experienced far worse, but, dangitall!  This makes me so furious and sad for that family.

Not trying to excuse anyone here but it was not the city police that did this.  It was the county sheriff's department.  Which may explain why they did not know it was the city mayor.

perfectly reasonable post, mark.... still unreasonable for the sheriff to fail their investigation by not finding out who these people ARE. I mean, you'd think they'd want to know past criminal activity, convictions, etc on ANY of the folks they arrested during this operation. 

I am Monday morning quarterbacking, I realize, and perhaps they will find the investigation was done "thoroughly"... maybe reserving judgement would be wise... but when witnesses attest to them shooting the dogs as they were running away.  DANG am I angry.

I don't know how things are run in that county, but in my  county you can bet your bippy that the sheriff knows the mayors, city council members and city officials of all the cities under his jurisdiction.
