    Dog Fancy Ad debaucle

Most have probably seen/read about this one elsewhere but...I'll post it here just in case. PeTA placed a bogus ad in Dog Fancy, turns out to be another tasteless attack on those that choose to purchase dogs from breeders...

They offered a "free gift bag" to those that'd recently purchased a purebred puppy when you called the 1 800#. They then sent out a "body bag" for the shelter pet killed when you purchased your dog. Nice eh?

Dog Fancy has rebutted/addressed the issue, and their answer is HERE

I hope the irony is not lost on PETA...that they should have kept the body bags themselves, since they do more killing of shelter dogs than anyone.

    Couldn't agree with you more.
PETA extremists are so vile they make my blood boil.

wow that really did turn my stomach..... such horrible nasty people.... i hope they get what they deserve some day.

PETA has always sort of confused me. They want people and animals to be equal, right? But aren't they the ones burning down research facilities and killing people? (Or is that ALF? Are they the same?) Also... don't animals kill and eat each other in the wild? Are we allowed to kill animals if we hunt them with our bare hands and teeth or should we charge animals with murder?

no they are typically vegan (apparently not the same thing as a vegetarian) and they tend to believe that anyone who eats meat (read normal diet) is sorely misguided and brainwashed.

they dont want people like "us" bothering animals at all. in fact they would rather see a human die than an animal. but believe, in the case of shelter animals and pets... they would be better off dead than in human hands.. which is why they kill them rather than adopt them out to good homes.

i think some even open gates and release pets in order to liberate them.

the way i see it is.. people are animals too. they deserve as much respect as an animal. these guys.... hell i wonder where they sprang from. who started this madness... the only thing they've taught me is eating a strict diet of just veggies makes you misanthropic and aggressive, so pass the steak! i'll keep my well rounded diet of a bit of meat and a bit of veggie, thanks!

I am completely speechless right now after reading this, and I'm so mad I could spit.  They can take their free gift and shove it up where the sun doesn't shine! Angry

Well, I don't think that all veggies or vegan can be dragged into this.  There are people on this board (I'm not one of them BTW) who are veggies or vegan and I would definitely not lump them in with the PETA crowd.

Frankly, this does not surprise me one bit.  This is just one more whiny, attention grabbing move from a whiny, attention grabbing group of people.  Although an evil little part of me thinks that this is what Dog Fancy gets for running some of the breeder ads that I've seen them run.....

Thats just sick. That money could have been spent on buying food or meds for the dogs in animal shelters, but no they spend it on body bags. Lovely.

Just to 'splain the difference and maybe clear up some misconception before it happens:

A vegetarian is someone whose diet is not meat-based.  There are different types of vegetarians - ovo-lacterian vegetarians do eat eggs and milk but commonly make the distinction that "they don't eat anything with eyes".  A pescatarian is a vegetarian who will also eat fish but not foul nor livestock animals.

A vegan (say "vee-gan" -- I said it wrong for years!) is a vegetarian who not only won't eat animal products, but who carries it further into their lifestyle and won't use products that are animal-based.  For example, they won't eat jello or take medicine in a celo capsule because those are derived from gelatine which are ground bovine cartilage.  They don't wear leather, feathers, skin or any sort.

Essentially a vegan won't "take advantage of" an animal for their own benefit (hence even tho milk is taken from a cow with no harm, a vegan won't consume anything animal-based at all).

I'm not veg*n (neither vegan nor vegetarian) but I've actually moderated a small dogsboard hosted by a vegetarian group for many years.  Some of them can be passionate animal-rights people (as opposed to animal-welfare which is REAL different), and for others it's a personal or religious choice.  I've made many many close friends who are both veg*n and non-veg*n from that board and it's taught me quite a lot of tolerance that I never had before.

PETA is a social/political organization that likes to consider itself "animal -rights" but which has a deeper agenda.  Essentially they go so far as to say that you shouldn't keep "pets" or in any way profit from animal life.  It's a pretty strange group -- and the deeper you study them the stranger they are and that's as far as I'll go on that.

Please don't equate PETA with vegetarianism.  That would be like saying all dogs are badly bred chihuahuas.  Badly bred chis may be dogs but they aren't the only ones around.  Does that make sense??

Well, I'm a vegetarian, have been for many, many years now--FWIW.  And, just the thought of those body bags is so disturbing to me.  That these people are comfortable with thinking this up and doing this. . .there is no excuse for this at all.  It's going too far.

Honestly is it really that shocking?  This is PETA, this is what they do.  A group of ignorant, conscienceless wastes of space IMO.

Well, Dog Fancy may "not knowingly accept advertising from PETA or agree with its extremeist views", but I can tell you one thing- the only 2 times I've received a membership offer in the mail from PETA was when I had subscriptions to Dog Fancy ( I had subscribed to DF for awhile, let the sub. expire, then resubscribed a couple of years later).
