Sorry but this one is a bit much IMO

I, for one, loved the ad. It looked EXACTLY like baby Kaiser did.

I'm just so sick of people being so dang petty. Give me a break. There are certain things in the world that i don't like, but i don't raise a ruckus over it. Could you see me going off because i saw an ad for meatloaf (b/c i despise meatloaf) ? I ignore it, and go about my life. How is that so hard? I could understand if the pup was ripping off a person's face or something...

ah well...you guys are right, the world's going mad.

We are losing our rights and stifling our culture to avoid offending people from other cultures who come to live here, presumably for a better life.

That is sad. I love the UK and its people. I spent six years there and greatly enjoyed it.

If it is any consolation I fear we are not far behind you.

If I wanted to make myself depressed I could give you a list of the things that have been banned to avoid offending other cultures.... Christmas being called "Winter Festival" in a lot of places would be heading that list.  The lady who was told she could not wear a small crucifix pendant to work would be on it as well.  It would be a long list. But I am not going to go there.

You and me both.  I got to LIVE here.  If it carries on we will probably emmigrate..... like thousands of other skilled Brits who are leaving the country in droves.... If we wanted to go to Australia for example, DH has all the points needed for us to get in on his skills alone.  He's an engineer trained in the armed forces and (at least we have ONE thing to brag about) that means he has had the best training in the world.

I am a person with a quick temper and I really struggle to control it.  Being a smart A** on top of it I find it easy to pop off a rude remark if I don't make the effort to be a nice person.  Living in stressful times I really and honestly try so very, very hard to be both pleasant and polite. So all that being said,  when I offend someone offering an aoplogy is simply good manners.  right?  But when someone takes offense over something like the photo of a puppy and wants to kick up a fuss things are just dumb.  If you do not like a tv show, turn it off. If a song or type of music offends you switch the channel,  if someone is wearing an outfit you find offensive don't look.... NO ONE makes you take in to your life things you find offensive . You honestly have control over the things  you decide will make you angry or offended.

While I think the Police were trying to minimize the silly uproar over people looking for something to be offended by  like others I find it sad that an agency that puts their life on the line to protect others has to also try to be ever PC in everything.

Well at least that makes a bit more sense than kicking up a stink over a photograph.

Don't get me wrong, I actually don't have a problem with showing respect and tolerance to other cultures and religions, even ones that are not "native" here.  I just feel that some people are taking our "good heart and tolerance" and basically, taking the pi$$.

I live in an EXTREMELY conservative town. I am VERY liberal.  That said, should I get my undies in a bundle because someone believes that the dinosaurs were on the Ark? Out town is full of fundamentalists who are SURE that their way is the only way. Good Lord people, it drives me crazy that we all can't just get along!!!

Are these people upset seeing dogs on the street,  women without veils, women who vote and own property, etc.? If they are upset about this, then they need to start their own commune and stay away from all of us "heathens"! ROFLLLLLLLLLL

Here, in Toronto this BIIIIG Christmas tree is now called a "holiday tree"

I really do not understand why people get so offended by little things.  I mean, really, it is a postcard with a picture of a dog on it.  So what!

    • Gold Top Dog

Interestingly it's not permissible for a Muslim to keep a dog, unless he needs the dog for hunting, guarding livestock or guarding crops.

There are quite a number of sites that look into Islamic laws hadith and dogs, here is one if anyones interested:-

The same goes in Ottawa for the other big "Holiday Tree".. geeze...

I think that as a society we've progressed in many wonderful ways, but at the same time, we've lost a lot of control.  So many silly laws are being enforced, that's it's really become quite ridiculous and absurd.  I thought the card was cute, although I do agree the pup did look a bit nervous, but overall it was completely un-offensive.  It seems like we've lost the concept of common sense, as well as personal freedom.

For instance, I say Merry Christmas to my customers during the holiday season.  If you are Jewish or Muslim, etc. then accept my offering of a peaceful salutations, and go on.  Same as if someone said Happy Hanukkah, I'd say thank you, same to you; even though I am not Jewish.  Why do we all have to pretend like we're walking on eggshells and be politically correct, when actually we all need to do is practise tolerance.

this was a MAJOR MAJOR debate in the UK dog forum....... it got so heated that the mods deleted it..... but yeah everyone is MAD and saying their country is being invaded and distorted and even their guys in charge or not even British....

    i mean... wow....

but..... the United Kingdom has invaded and usurped how many countries and changed the native cultures way of life? and before that.. Rome... Rome did the same thing before they were invaded and changed... before that, who was in charge?

not trying to get political or mean but its just history repeating itself.

Well, I'll avoid the "invaded" part, but I believe that the Muslims, by virtue of the immigration policy, were invited into the UK. As such, it appears reasonable that such guests should respect the customs, traditions, mores of their host country. If pictures of dogs are found so offensive, perhaps the guests should consider leaving. The door swings both ways.

As a US citizen I am holding my tongue a bit, since we of course are experiencing a crisis of our own. We are expected to relax our sovereignty while our neighboring country holds high standards for those wishing to migrate there (you can do a search on immigration policies of Mexico; you will be shocked).

But back to the subject... I am proud of my heritage. My ancestors came from Ireland and Germany. They accepted the rules and regulations of the country to which they chose to migrate. That said, it only makes sense to me to seek the place where you are comfortable. Do not seek a place where you can change their traditions to yours. Sounds rather simple to me.

theres more to it than that Dr. but thats a debate for another forum Wink

    • Gold Top Dog

That is one of the silliest things I have read in a long time.......I am a Christian and I don't see eye to eye with the muslim religion......they don't offend me until they are invading my personal beliefs, trying to change laws that affect me personally or are trying to kill me.........so, stay out of my life and I won't be offended........
