Sorry but this one is a bit much IMO

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,374564,00.html

I have no comment as I cannot come up with one that is pollitcaly correct. The story is about a Scottish police dog puppy and the outrage his picture is causing certain citizens of Scotland.

It doesn't matter what you do, someone, somewhere, will be offended. I'm offended by a religion who's holy scripture says that I must die. I'm offended by fundamentalists who rejoice with glee at the thought of killing almost 3,000 people at once. You usually only see those kinds of numbers with natural disasters, like earthquakes and tsunamis.I'm offended by people who come into another culture and expect everyone to follow their religious dogma. And I let my dog lick me on the lips, too. And I think women have the right to vote, hold office, and own property. That also puts me at odds with people who think the dog is unclean and unholy. And I have never denied being provincial. If I were the police in that town, I would keep the ad up and say "What are you going to do? Fly a plane into the building?" Yeah, I 'm having trouble coming up with anything that might be politically correct. But then I have seen someone lose everything they had due to someone else's intolerance. So, I might not have the proper "objective" view.

Hmmm, I have to blow this kind of stuff off.  As one of the comments said, "I am outraged that they are outraged".  Fine.  Now we're all even.

Is that anywhere close to being politically correct?

Well.  I'm speechless.  Some people need to realize that the entire world doesn't revolve around making sure they're never offended by something, especially those that are offended by everything anyway.  Is that too un "PC"?  I hope none of them are ever in a position to have their lives or property saved by a police K9. Embarrassed

And here I was thinking that somebody (in the story) would have pointed out how scared and nervous that puppy looked . . .

    Nope--couldn't be that simple.

I'd give them what they want, in that case. If they can't abide a dog helping to save their lives, then let their lives be lost. Life has some harsh lessons.

Here is what really ticks me off

"'They (the police) should have understood. Since then, the police have explained that it was an oversight on their part, and that if they'd seen it was going to cause upset they wouldn't have done it.'

'We did not seek advice from the force's diversity adviser prior to publishing and distributing the postcards. That was an oversight and we apologise for any offence caused.'"

What pray tell is worthy of an apology here? There was nothing wrong about that card and no need for an apology. I have to look at stuff daily that offends me and I do not run around asking people for an apology. I would not get one even if I asked for it and yet because these are muslims and we must all be very delicate and sensitive with them (why I have no clue so please enlighten me) and must apologize for putting a cute little puppy that may one day save some of these people's lives on a postcard.

The world is going crazy I fear. If we give in to this kind of silliness we will never get anything done, we will not be able to put print anything since it is sure to offend someone. If they do not like the card then they should throw the damn thing away.

Sheesh the world is full of good reasons to be offended, and for the police to apologize for putting one of their canines on a postcard is ridicoulous at best.

    meh??? wth?

i am muslim and aware of the believe that dogs are unclean. that is why a "real" muslim (practicing muslim i mean) should not keep dogs in their house.

but uhm, so now a PICTURE of a dog is unclean too? LMAO!!!! do these ppl not have anything better to do than to complain about stupid things like that?? oy....

the world has truly gone mad... lol

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh my word.  This. Makes. Me. So. MAD!!!!!

It's a PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!  A picture of a PUPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It's not pornographic or provocative IN THE SLIGHTEST.

I am so so so so so so TICKED that the police apologised.  That is an admission of wrong doing and that's a snap shot of why this country is going to the dogs.

To show how non-xenophobic we are. To show that we can differentiate between a law-abiding person of the Nation of Islam and a terrorist. That we realize that Osama bin Laden is not typical of the culture. Just to show how non-biased we are, we are willing to stifle our own culture. And, of course, take it out on an innocent dog, who had nothing to do with 9-11 or Guantanamo Bay. Because that's how we do things in christian countries and some sects of muslim. We punish the innocent for the sins of the guilty.

exactly!!! they dont complain when they see pictures of women that dont wear vailes (how the heck do you spell that???), why complain about a dog... talk about ignorant... sheesh...

    • Gold Top Dog

Not being privvy to relations of the two cultures in that country, nor it's preferred method of media bias (because every country has one) I cannot comment.

Sounds to me tho that there are issues above and beyond this one...and that there is likely some sort of background. This didn't come out of a vacuum.

    What is happening over there?

We are losing our rights and stifling our culture to avoid offending people from other cultures who come to live here, presumably for a better life.

That is sad. I love the UK and its people. I spent six years there and greatly enjoyed it.

If it is any consolation I fear we are not far behind you.
