Someone please Help! I need Clothes for puppy!

A toy-breed 11 week old puppy should not be taken on a cold camping trip...  unless you kept her wrapped in goosedown inside your shirt the whole way. Small breeds, especially pups, chill VERY easily. How do you buy food if you can't buy toys/beds etc? How do you pay vet bills?

Personally, I would just leave her with some friends. Better safe than sorry.

I am not an adult, so my mom buys food and essentials, and vet bills. But she won't buy clothes for my dog. She thinks it's silly. She'll say that My dog will be fine, so I would have to pay for the clothes with money I don't have. All of you here on dog.com are telling me that I need warm fleece clothes for her, but my mom disagrees, so she probably won't let me purchase any. Do you understand??

She would be fine with it if they were free, or trade, but she thinks I'll be waisting my money If I buy them. I bought the papillon, and as u know, papillons are expensive, so I still have spent all my money.

~sigh....~  How old are you?  When you consider buying a living thing or bringing one into the world, you have to consider all of the costs, not just the cost of acquiring what you momentarily want.  It's great your Mom is paying for the essentials, but if it is YOUR dog, you are responsible for providing for it, not for asking for handouts from strangers on the internet.  You also should have researched the breed of the dog you were getting and known about what it needed BEFORE you spent all your money on buying it.

Go to Goodwill or Salvation Army and buy baby clothes.  An infant sweatshirt and sweatpants would probably work in a pinch to keep your dog warm.  Do not take it camping, it's too young and too susceptible to the elements.  If you can't find a way to keep it home or provided for, you shouldn't go camping.  If it's a family trip and remaining home, boarding the dog or finding someone to sit for it isn't an option, then you need to get used to the idea of having that cute little button in physical contact with your the entire time.  Guess what, you're a parent now, you're responsible for this small creature that you purchased and now you need to live with that reality and act appropriately.  Get a part time job, cut lawns, haul garbage, look for odd jobs, help little old ladies weed their flowerbeds, etc. to earn the money you need to take care of your pet.

Exactly. The best option for the pup's social and physical well-being is for you to stay. If for some reason you MUST go, find somewhere to board her, or a person to dog-sit...I really would not take a very small, young pup out into the elements, even with clothes. Not at that age (and especially since at that age they have not finished vaccinations!!) I wouldn't board at a veterinary clinic for the same reason - most places will not even take a dog that is not at least through it's puppy vaccines. I would suggest  checking the yellow pages for a live-in dogsitter (or at least a someone to check in on the pup periodically if it is housetrained already - if not you will need to leave it with someone who will be there 24/7.)

 
I'm sorry this isn't the answer you wanted to get, since you were looking for clothes and not advice - but please, take our advice. Really, camping and 11-12 week old pups, especially toys, does NOT mix. Too many pathogens, too many environmental stressors. Maybe you could show your mom this thread, print it out, and she would help you find someone to take care of the dog.

Now I don't know about toys and didn't know that puppies have to be clothed, but what about getting one of those little toy dog carrier bags and lining it with a piece of down blanket?  That way you can carry her around and she will be safe and warm.

But when you bring up such a situation, you are opening yourself to questions. We' are also trying to give additional advice for the health of your dog, which is what you were worried about in the first place.

Keep her off the ground as much as possible if she has not finished vaccinations - distemper is a big one. If an infected coyote, raccoon, weasel, otter, skunk, badger, dog, etc has urinated or defecated anywhere, and your pup ingests some, breathes in any particle by sniffing, or gets some on her and then licks it off.....major problems. Also be on the lookout for fleas and ticks, both of which has quickly and severely affect a very small puppy.

Ask any vet about how easily a pup can chill, and relay the info to your mom. I am sure that she will change her mind if you show her actual veterinary advice +/- the advice of very experienced members of the forum, and may even lend you some money.

 The other good option, if you are set on going, is the thrift store/Goodwill/YMCA as was suggested before. You can get infant clothes there which might possible work. You could also try making your own if donations do not come in

We are trying to suggest more options for you, everything from getting a dogsitter to talking to your mom/relaying information to cheap places to get clothes. Because what happens if you can't get any? Just saying. We mean well.

 

The heavy sigh was for a number of reasons, not the least of which is someone spending "all their money" to buy a dog (note my siggy, I'm a rescue fiend, so I'm biased) and then posting NUMEROUS threads wanting info on the breed, food, etc. It's great that you're looking for info from dog enthusiasts and lovers but at the same time it gives the impression that you did very little research on the breed before you got the dog, otherwise your threads would look much like the horselover's posts BEFORE the dog is acquired, NOT AFTER.  Also, you posted NUMEROUS threads asking for handouts, which would not be a bad thing IMHO if you'd just rescued this dog off the street, didn't have enough money to take care of it but wanted to do what you could (much like sowilu and the dogs she's saved with sheer grit and determination).  But, you chose to spend "ALL YOUR MONEY" on buying a dog (not saving some for the accessories all dogs inevitably need, hence pretty irresponsible)

As someone with 4 rescue animals in the house, and visiting a shelter full of dogs who can be got for a bargain, it bugs me.  You could have saved a life and had loads of money left over for things like doggie clothes and x pens.  And the sigh was not because you're under 18, I would have the same response regardless of the age.  I asked your age after the sigh because I was trying to get a handle on what you could do to EARN THE MONEY to help provide those things for your dog.  I strongly suspect you got the dog from a pet store which drives me bonkers, it's one of my pet peeves.  If you had bought this dog from a reputable breeder, you would know much more about the breed than you do and you would not be taking it camping because the breeder would have warned you about things to avoid with the breed and with young puppies.  And because you're young (yes, this beef is age-based) and think you know everything, you're choosing to ignore advice from people with more dog experience than you and even from a veterinary student and taking a young, toy breed puppy who's barely out of its final round of puppy shots into an area and conditions that you've been told aren't good for a dog of its type or age.  If wtsfrequency was your VET and told you the same exact things she has here, would you listen then?

So, because I care more about dogs than I do about people OR their feelings, that's why I sighed and came down as condescending and mother-like.  There's alot more to owning an animal than bringing it love.
