    SD multi-breed ban

    Saw this, thought i'd share.

    http://www.kxmc.com/News/241770.asp

The breed banning is really starting to scare me.

I agree, this is scaring me too. Time to start training Rosco tfor his TDI or something...

Even if your dog LOOKS like one of those breeds you can be in trouble if you cant proove otherwise.

There was a issue in Denver where a lady had a swiss moutnian mix so ut had short hair and they thought it was a pit so it got taken away until he rvet could vouch for her. CRAZY!!!! I'm so glad California is not jumping on this like a lot of other states.

Keep in mind that when you travel or vacation somewhere you may be supporting a economy that has a breed ban. I absolutely refuse to support any county that allows such nonsense.

It really is sad. I would love to own a pit/ am staff/ pit mix oneday, but i'm too afraid to do it. I would be too afraid it would be taken away. And now the breed i currently own is also being banned? and my future dobe? it's a disgrace!

I find bans come in silently, often with few people hearing about it; politicians chatting behind closed doors, and avoiding the actual evidence about breed bans and the fact they don't work.

Our province wide ban started off quietly; the result of a horrific Pitbull attack on a man.  Within a couple of short months, the legislation had passed, with only a couple of public meetings; and several offers by veterinarians, breed groups and dog communities to speak out about the proposed ban being turned down.  Mass hysteria only fueled the fire further.  Suddenly it was announced that a dog that only days ago was legal in the laws eyes was banned.  It didn't matter if they were innocent or not.

Pitbulls that were once a welcomed part of the community (the responsibly owned ones), were now spat on and considered vile.  Having people cross to the other side of the road to avoid contact with; and in some extreme cases having beer bottles thrown at.

I honestly feel that most people are under the opinion that it won't happen in their community.  There wrong!  Start now, before it's too late; and it becomes a massive legal battle that is literally running into millions of dollars to fight.  Speak out!  Write to all levels of your local government, and tell them that BSL is not going to be a part of your community!  If dog lovers unite, justice will prevail.  If you ignore the warning signs of BSL, many lives will be effected.  Pitbulls aren't the only ones to be effected by these laws.  It can and does happen to all breeds!

You can tell that they put no thought into this process. That just proves that these are knee jerk reactions from stupid people who know nothing about dogs. While I am against any type of bans if I were going to compile a list of breeds to ban it sure would not be the list they came up with:

"pit bulls, bull mastiffs, Rottweilers, Doberman pinchers and German shepherd"

so you cannot own a pit bull but you can own an american bulldog or a dogo

you cannot own a bullmastiff but you can own a fila

you cannot own a doberman but you can own a Leonberger

you cannot own a GSD but you can own a Malinois

and it is perfectly okay to own Doque De Bordeauzs or Presa Canarios or Akita's or Tosa's or Cane Corso's, Boerboel's, Neo Mastiffs.

And hell if the authorities come and take away your Bull Mastiff because it is a dangerous dog then you can always go out and get yourself a couple of Bandogges

Stupid people who know next to nothing about dogs. I would much rather take my chances going through the yard of a GSD than a Fila without the owner present or with an owner who has no control.

I mean my goodness! If one is going to try and compile a list of dangerous breeds surely they could do better than the one they come up with. That just shows how stupid they are.

And why isnt the JRT on this list? I get attacked at least once a week by a JRT while trying to walk my dogs! Never had a problem with any of the ones on their stupid list though or for that matter I have never had a problem with the ones on my own list. But JRT's and Chihuahuas should be banned as they are always attacking me. (apologies to all who own one of these little terrors)

I spend money NOWHERE where BSL rears its ugly head. When we were in the Denver airport, I refused to even buy a POP even though I was thirsty.

Believe me, if BSL shows up in our small town, I will be the first one to be at the city council meetings with Gypsy in tow! Trust me, the people in this town know how passionate I am about this.  I had the entire city government in an uproar a couple of years ago because of a Blessing of the Animals that was a fund raiser for our shelter.  The lady who ran the fund raiser said that well behaved animals could come on leashes, EXCEPT for Pits and Rotts. I blew a gasket and backed my vet up against the wall about this (he's on the same committee)and went to the lady running it.  The city was supplying the liability insurance for this and the city attorney was afraid I was going to SUE over it.  Well, the next year, ALL well behaved pets were welcome. Sooo, you CAN rattle cages and have something positive come from it. FWIW, I work for the city and could probably have lost my job if i had pursued this, but I felt sooo strongly about this that I knew I MUST say something.

Yes  Proof that people who care can make a difference in the world of Anti- BSL!  Thanks for sticking up for your rights and working to stop BSL!

That showed that woman!  (grumbles) Allowing all behaved dogs except Rotties and Pits!  (grumbles again)  AAARGH!

Maybe Im having a stupid moment but if GSDs are banned then what will they use as police dogs?
    • Gold Top Dog

As of 2007 the population of Leola SD was 402 so I don`t think that they have police dogs. This is the only town in the state that I know of that has a ban. This is a place not to move to and if I lived there I would be moving ASAP.
