Shes probably happy shes not a California Girl because if she were she would be mandated to spay/neuter her dogs too early... Check out the link and you'll understand why.

Thats true thats because there is alot of a holes in california that dont take care of there pets we have so many strays here. I have had least 3 or 5 times found dogs in my yard and had to hold them til I found owner. So I guess I do understand that part. But california is nice

Well, I'm a Mississippi guy. Call me crazy, but I like it here. We're not all backwoods, inbred hicks around here. Only some of us. [sm=lol.gif] Just kidding.

Honestly, the only other state that I'd consider moving to would probably be somewhere in the north side of Texas.

ETA: Sorry, this was off topic. I didn't really realize it until I had hit the post button. [sm=smack.gif]

Now don't get me wrong. I'd love to live in California if it wasn't for this bill that they are trying to pass. AND I have nothing against sp/n pets. I believe all dogs and cats should be spayed unless you plan to show them. But this bill states that all dogs and cats must be altered by the age of 4 months unless they have already won a significant show by that age. What is the age limit on dogs to be able to be shown? Can you even put a title on a dog that young? I believe puppies adopted from shelters should be altered before they go home. Not to do it, IMO is just asking for trouble, but are they just trying to get rid of responsible breeders? Irresponsible BYB are not going to comply. In fact, this law will if anything just deter them from getting proper vet care for their animals. It just seems like a recipe for disaster to me. I guess thats why people are fighting it. It seems like the bill was put together by people that don't know what they are doing.

The people who are backing and supporting this bill know exactly what they are doing.  This bill is backed by the HSUS and a number of AR groups.  Their goal is the extinction of companion animals in this country.  After all if you spay and castrate all the dogs and cats eventually there will be none left.  The HSUS is very active all over the country trying to get laws in place that will make breeding impossible.

I'm sorry but with millions of animals being PTS each year in California. I think it is a good thing.

Extinction of animals would be a far away possibility, and I do not think that is why this bill is being passed. It is because it is not fair to kill millions of unwanted animals each year.

And I'm from California and I still support this bill. I have read alot about it, and at first I was not sure, but once I read it I agree with it.

So you are thinking of breeding the cockapoo you just got now before you spay her because your reletives want her puppies???

I believe ALL dogs ought to be altered, unless they are proven in the show ring to reproduce.

But how can they be proven in the show ring if they are altered before they are allowed to enter it?

Again I point out the fact that irresponsible breeders will not be dissuaded from breeding. They'll just skip vaccines and other important vet care in order not to have their dogs on records of any type. Licensing won't be done. Forget chipping or anything like that. I just don't see how this can possibly do any good. The oops litters, I would wager to say aren't the big picture here. People that want to breed thier dogs are going to do it regardless.

I think that lowering the cost of a spay/neuter should be the first step. If it could be made completely free, that would go a long long way towards cutting the unwanted pet population down. However I know that probably isn't feesable since alot of taxpayers would not want to pay for someone elses dog to be fixed.

Raise the age line to 1 year. Then the age argument of whether it is safe or not would be void. It would also give purebred dogs a chance to compete. Even say if you spay or neuter you pet before it is 4 months, you save half the cost or whatever. But mandatory after 1 year.

I will never support a bill anywhere where the ultimate goal is to wipe out the companion animal population. I love my dogs and I would never want to live without one. Or 2 or 3 or 4 or....[:D]

Cockapoosheida, Please don't breed you dog just because your family wants her puppies. There are way too many dogs out there that need homes. This is how I think about it. If I bred Crusher, and his mate had 8 puppies, even if those puppies found great homes, then 8 puppies would die in shelters because Crusher's puppies would take thier rightful spots. I couldn't live with that. Could you? And btw, the bill has not been passed yet as far as I know. Its still in the works.

No offense, you seem well-intentioned, but this is the sort of thing the bill is trying to stop.  Please do not breed your puppy unless you have experience breeding, you truly believe your puppy and the other parent would produce dogs even better than themselves, and you are ready to lose a lot of money for the sake of bettering the breed.  Respectable breeders don't breed because someone asks for a puppy, they breed because they are devoted to improving their breed.  If your relatives want puppies, refer them to a reputable breeder or rescue group.
