The person who made this video is on another forum I belong to. I get sooooo tired of telling people that the breed isn't a bad breed!

We will be teaching a class at work on Tuesday (the local public library) on choosing the right dog for your family.  Gyspy will be the star attraction!  I hope to change yet another person's mind about the bull breeds.

I will fight BSL any way I can.  I have already told DH that if we ever move, I will NOT live in an area wher it exists.  I WILL go to jail if they make my breed illegal rather than let my girl be taken from me. I am the most law-abiding citizen you will ever meet, but I will stand up for my chosen dog with my last ounce of strength.  you haven't met a stubborn person until you have seen ME standing up for something I believe in!

I have to say too that you have the cutest puppy. I absolutly adore pit bulls. They, in my opinion, are not an agressive breed but the sweetest breed I have met. I dont have one (although one day I will), but I volunteer frequently with a pit bull rescue. These dogs have all of course come from horrible situations, one was found with an embedded collar, another came from a hoarder (they were stuck in crates, it was so bad that the urnine they were stuck in had burned their skin), one had to be trapped after a hurricane, and yet they are all SO sweet.

The pits are the ones who always come up to the cages at our local shelter to be pet. They are by far the sweetest dogs I have met in there. I have been snapped at by a couple of labs and a couple of smaller dogs, but NEVER by a pit. I fostered a little pit mix not too long ago and talk about cute & sweet.

I honestly have yet to meet an "aggressive" or even grumpy ;pit bull. I would say temperment wise they far outrank any breed I have owned. They are strong of course, but all they want to do is please everyone they meet. I guess that people are (as one person on here said) intimidated by their looks. I guess it has to do with the media hype, but to me they look like big goofy love bugs(even the ones with the cropped ears). They are by far in my opinion the most beautiful breed.

My heart breaks too every time I go down to the shelter and see all of the beautiful sweet bullies who will never know a real home and never have someone of their own to love. They are the first to be put down because very few people will adopt them and there are so many. I actually was going to adopt one when her "time ran out" but sadly there was a huge miscommunication and she was PTS.

That video was very sad but hopefully things are starting to change in favor of the pit bull. It seems like more people are starting to "get it" that they arent vicious and dont deserve to be banned or die. I wish instead they would ban the bad owners.

Alieliza,  So sorry for calling your Tyson a girl.[:)] I geuss I can use the fact that it was late as an excuse? Maybe I was just thinking about Zoe and went with she for the whole post.  Who knows. LOL   HE looks like he is having so much fun in his pool.  I got a pool for Jake and I have to put him in it.  And he's a lab. LOL My son has a myspace too and maybe I can get him to put the video in it.  You know how strong minded those 13-year-olds are.  If all those kids watch this video and tell thier parents about this we will have a lot of votes against it!!!

should I be worried that she will be next?

Yes.  Some insurers already decline coverage to GSD's and Husky's, as well as a host of other breeds, because they consider them risky to own. [:'(]

I was told that my renters insurance will not cover GSDs, Rottweilers, Pit Bull/AmStaffs or Dobermans.  But I could have gotten a Ovchartka, Cane Corso, Neo, Akita, Tosa, or any of 100 other large/giant breeds that are capable of inflicting just as much damage if they are trained/treated irresponsibly.  It makes no sense to me to penalize the dog for it's breed.

That video is sad, even if i never did have a pitt bull. Poor things. If people would stop using them as fighting dogs or making them agressive (by hitting them or whatever they do to make them that way), then they wouldnt have the name that they got. All dogs arent agressive, including these kind, you just have to treat them right. Although I dont think id ever own one nor would my family ever want to b/c they're not to knean on them.[>:]

    what is BSL?
    • Gold Top Dog
BSL is "Breed Specific Legislation"... and it is sweeping the nation.  As a matter of fact, it is popping up in other countries as well.  Many cities and provinces have already adopted the practice of BSL, although some places have rejected it, but its spreading.

BSL can range from mandatory spay/neuter for specific breeds of dogs, mandatory muzzling, to a flat out ban of the breed.  When breed bans happen, thousands of dogs are taken from their home, shipped out of the area with the ban, or worse, put to sleep.

BSL generally targets what politicians and the media categorize as "dangerous dogs" (usually ;pit type dogs, including American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Terriers, Bull Terriers, Rottweilers, and can include many other dogs -- many breeds have gotten the brunt of this in the past, such as Dobermans, German Shephard Dogs, etc.)  Any dog, however, if left in the wrong hands, and not properly trained and socialized, and/or badly bred, can become "dangerous."

Aside from ignorance and thousands of animals being put to sleep, one of the worst things, in my opinion, about BSL is that this means that the law could state that "race determines behavior" and racial profiling is wrong.

To defend my breed, American Pit Bull Terriers are not human aggressive dogs, as a matter of fact, they treasure the attention of humans, and are some of the most affectionate dogs I've ever met.  There is also plenty of research to back up their solid temperaments.

Sometimes, however, an insert breed name here falls into the hands of someone who will encourage aggressive behavior, and bingo, bad reputation.

Sorry to go on and on, but this should give you an idea of what BSL is.
