    This is the Rescue Group...

... that I want to foster for.  Actually I'd love to just adopt all of these guys, but you know...

anyway I just thought I would post the link and see what you guys thought.

Also any comments that I should add to the foster application that may help me get approved would be helpful.  And I'm thinking of switching to a Raw diet once I move because I can't get Acana in Dryden and other foods like Innova and EP are drastically more than they are here in TBay.  Do you think a rescue org would frown on this?  They say they will supply food, but I can't imagine feeding my dogs raw and giving the poor foster plain ol kibble.

ETA:  I really really really want Harley...

Wow, are they a Husky rescue or are there just mostly huskies "up there"?  Looks like a cool idea.  They have a really nice website!  (sidenote: as a web designer my pet peeve is web sites that are so bad/unnavigable that it actually turns people away and I love doing web design for non-profits.  I'm always so pleased so see nice sites for dog rescues)

I think the rescue would be crazy not to accept you for a foster mom.  With your experience in the husky breed it seems like you would be a shoe in.  I think it's so great that you are looking into fostering.  So are you thinking about waiting a bit till you foster a pregnant bitch now?

They have some amazing looking dogs.  Elsa is gorgeous.  Harley seems like he would be a goof ball.

Harley looks great. I hope you get him.

As for the app, I wouldn't know what to say. I've never applied at a breed rescue before. But make sure you mention how you do sledding and skijoring when the weather permits, your extensive background so far in northern breeds, and that you certainly plan to feed them the most appropriate food for them. That you also have support network of others who know about Sibes and other northern breeds. And I don't mean just myself. And that you concern is to provide them the most enjoyable life possible.

I would highly suggest asking to talk with people who have fostered for them in the past. I have fostered for a couple of bad rescues who pretty much dumped the foster dog on me and told me the dog was my problem now.

Be very careful as to who you foster for.

Good luck. Harley is so handsome!

I have to wait for a bit because I'm in the middle of  a move.  And its going to kind of be a long move since I have to pack everything up here and then go back to Dryden to work on they place we are moving into.  This includes putting up the fence, building the kennel and generally cleaning up the yard as well as lots of stuff inside.  I figure it's gonna take the better part of two months to settle all of this and then I'll still have to get the dogs settled in once I get them there.  They will be staying with Tyler while I go to Dryden.  The kids will be with me since T will be working until he moves there.

I guess I never really thought about the fact that I do have knowledge of the northern breeds.  They aren't actually a husky rescue, but that is a pretty predominant breed up north.  I just keep worrying about their reaction to me living in town and not out on acres and acres of land which would be ideal obviously.  They do a home visit so they will have to meet my dogs and I think that should go just fine.  Well except for Onxy's tendancy to just like people that don't like her.[&:]  I guess if they send someone that has some sort of idea about dealing with dogs with her kind of issues... I wonder if they could send my vet?

Talking to other foster families is a great idea.  I'll definatley ask.  But they are a pretty successful organization so I can't imagine that they treat thier foster people too badly.

I'm still kind of nervous about the whole RAW thing.  I wonder how they feel about that.

I would love to take Harley but i believe he is already in foster care and is doing well, so moving him would be a permanent thing.  I don't really think I could take on another dog as a forever dog right now.  At least not do that and then foster as well.  And I really want to foster.  Harley and Elsa came into the rescue together.

He he, that is funny, we are in the middle of a move too & we just had to (almost finished with) putting a fence up :)

    Good luck on your fostering.

Fostering is a lot of fun & I know you will do wonderfully at it :)

Just keep in mind that if you let the current foster go to it's new home, then you can save another one!

That is exactly what I keep thinking.  I hope I remember it when the time comes.  [:D]
