This just in from Souther Comfort Maltese Rescue by way of Small Paws Rescue (Bichon rescue): This Saturday, April 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m., in Bartow County GA, 204 small breed dogs (from a puppy mill who's owner recently passed away) will be auctioned off (minimum bid is $100). This is done by order of the county's probate court to help pay for the care of the dogs. There are Maltese, Poodles, Yorkies, Poms, Pekes, and mayby Dachshunds. There is concern about this auction because aparantly some puppy millers have been inquiring about purchase. These dogs are not up for adoption--the only way to get them is to bid. THESE DOGS HAVE NOT BEEN SPAY/NEUTERED, and may end up back in the puppy mill cycle.
The auction will take place in the parking lot of the Bartow County Animal Control, 50 Ladd's Mountain Rd. Cartersville, GA. If you can make a donation to help Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue, here is a link to their donation page:
