Folks the mandatory spay neuter bill has passed committee and will be sent to the follow. An acquaintance on the Belgian discussion list indicated there is a concerted effort on the part of animal rights activists to prevent opposition of any type. The bill passed close to party lines with Republicans opposed and Democrats in favor (exception of two Dem who voted against the measure).

Please, start contacting folks, get people aware and interested....This legislation could impact dog ownership in may unintended ways that are likely to be problematic.

Absolutely. Even if you agree with the anti-breeding parts of this bill it is still a terrible idea. It is NOT going to keep dogs out of shelters.

What California needs is more low cost/free spay and neuters. Many low income people will not or can not spend $200 to get their pets neutered. If they don't they face a $500 fine. What will they do if they are caught? Turn the animal into the shelter. Or they will not reclaim them from the shelter if lost.

This bill does not hurt puppy mills at all, because they already meet the USDA standards for raising dogs. Things like raising dogs on surfaces that can be sanitized. If you think puppies should be raised in homes with carpet and wood, and be let into yards with grass and decks, then you should be against this bill.

If you live in California, please please please write to your congressman. Write letters to your newspaper.
